Hi all, so for the past month or so I have had a high pitched continuios tone in both ears (the middle of my head) I hoped it was a sinus infection, but its driving me slightly mad! Other than having distractions like TV/radio (which dont work at bedtime) has anyone got any ideas???

Hi, sorry to hear that you are suffering. I too suffer from noise in both ears but mine's continuous ringing. In the first few months I found that a sound machine worked for me playing white nose or waves crashing. This seemed to help me not focus on the tinnitus whilst trying to go to sleep and if I woke up during the night. The machines are not that expensive. There are also free tinnitus music apps that you can download on your phone which will help you find what sound works best for your ears as it varies what music is best for you trying to zone the tinnitus out. A year and and half on, I don't use any sound machine or app. I still suffer from tinnitus and hear it every night but I've managed to not let it make me anxious and I'm able to not focus on it anymore and I find myself thinking about other things, so eventually I fall asleep and when I wake up during the night it's not the first thing I think about so I'm able to drift back off to sleep far quicker. Hope this helps and please note there is light at the end of this tunnel.

What viella says here is really good. Personally I’ve had it for fifteen years or so, and am mostly able to ignore it. controlled breathing is my best distraction from the T.

Go somewhere you won’t be interrupted preferably outdoors where you can hear birds or wind in trees etc. and take a timer with you, set for just two minute start with.

Hands on lower tummy and take a breath in feeling your hands move a little. Breath out. Slow your breathing and just concentrate on the breath. When your brain skitters away bring it back gently. Just breathe

Try this several times a day if you can, making it longer. Two minutes then three etc.

This does take practice, like anything new, so don’t give up. I wish you well

Hi there

Sorry to here about the noise you are hearing having to hear the noise coming out of the middle of your head is more common then you think this is how my Tinnitus started which as you well know is a shock to the system, I actually heard an orchestra blasting out which happened a few times Tinnitus is scary when you first get it but over time you do get used to dealing with it but it’s how you deal with it Tinnitus breeds on your fears it likes the quiet so fight back always have some noise in the background then you will find your brain starts to lose interest in the tinnitus and pushes it into the background carry on in your daily life what you normally do. At night if you can also have some noise (I use white noise) it’s your choice what’s good for you there’s a good selection of apps theses day’s

Generally over time you will have more good day’s then bad I’ve always said Tinnitus is the bear on your back take it on and beat it! I’m sure you will be positive if you haven’t already when you can see your GP (CORONA VIRUS PERMITTING THAT IS) you can also get a referral to ENT dept to check your ears it maybe a virus or wax causing the problem.

Wish you well

Marcus.

I only started with tinnitis in the last month and my doctor said it was rhinitis. Its where ear fluid builds up and blocks your hearing causing tinnitis. He told me to use allergy tablets and menthol crystals and albus oil. It did clear mine up.

How did you use the menthol crystals?

You put a crystal in hot water, let it cool for a little while then inhale the steam.

I use loratadine i think thats how its spelt you can get them from Aldi and Pharmacys. They are non drowsy. I use Albus oil on a tissue and inhale it through the day. I will point out my tinnitus has since come back but its fairly quite. I used an otovent due to the amount of fluid behind my ear.

Thankyou.. what is an otovent ? .... the ringing mainly in my left ear started after a long session of microsuction 5 weeks ago, used EarCalm but hasn’t really helped... how would I know if I had fluid in my ear ? 😊😊

Its something i think you should only use if a doctor recommends it. Its not a nice thing and it hurt my ear to use. Try the allergy tablets and i know i have fluid because i can feel it in my ear. Also it drips down behind my ear drum and down my neck which is also pretty horrible haha.
