high cholesterol

been taking this statin for about ten years and no difference to the T at all.
I too was prescribed this statin last September and I’m not taking it . Mainly because I don’t like the side affects of medicines , not because of the possibility of making my tinnitus worse. Side affects can happen to any of us. It is your choice whether you decide to take your medicine . I am told that statins help stop a build up of possible plaque around the heart. I’m thinking of taking my statins .
Having had so many side effects with anxiety tablets its put me off, its really scared me, the only tablets i take now are paracetamols if i have a head ache or a cold , and they work wonders.my cholesterol level is 5.4 so not too bad, i could just change my diet and see if that lowers it, its something to think about.
Diet will help indeed - look at website of Blood Pressure UK for hints and tips. But diet by itself doesn’t necessarily bring chol down very much. BUT again the diet will be good for all all round including (recent research) delaying onset of Alzheimer’s
Are you doing your own cholesterol testing ?
My diabetic eye check in January showed a tiny spot in my eye due to cholesterol .My cholesterol was 6.6 . My dr put me on Atorvastatin ( stopped after 5 days cos they brought back my Tinnitus ) I went on a vegan diet , Felt awful after a month . So now include fish and chicken . Also use Benecol drinks and proactive spread . My cholesterol is now 5.41 . Should be under 5 but I’m happier with that than the statin. My tinnitus is still here . I wish I’d been warned !
Thanks Kelly, thanks for the warning on the T, i hope your T eases now you have come off the statin that's given me something to think about, i already eat a lot of chicken and some fish, i will add the benecol drinks and activia spread. Its great when something works. I hope your cholesterol comes down even further.😁👍
Hello rabbits 65, the doctors are still trying to put me on statins which iv resisted for the last year I'm still not keen to go on them because of the T, in your replied post 10 months ago you ended by saying you were thinking of taking the statins they gave you, did you and how are you or have you still resisted like i have.
I’ve been taking it for years. No connection with T.
Good health!
What strength statin. Several of my friends take it , 3 of us on 40mg all have T . But my husband also 40 doesn't have it. The three others are on between 5 to 20 . None of them have it. So it might depend on the strength .
In the 40mg box leaflet under Uncommon may affect up to 1 in 100 people = "ringing in the ears and /or head " Thats not my idea of uncommon. Reported my T to YELLOW CARD. where people send reports of adverse reactions to various medication. Atorvastatin is the most common used statin and had the most T reports.
And thats only the ones who actually reported it. As T can start several months later, it may be difficult to prove. Mine was 5 days so I knew Ator was responsible.
You could try taking plant sterols, they bring cholesterol down. You take 3 at first then after a few months can reduce to one a day. Try Benecol spread too. Plant sterols are in the little yogurt drinks you can buy to lower cholesterol. I take plant sterols, no effect on T.
Yes I read that . Ordered some from Healthspan. , then discovered something in them that isn't recommended for me . Cant remember now but it might be because I'm on blood thinners or allergic to one of the ingredients.
Ready for a truth bomb?
Your body needs cholesterol … your own liver makes 3000+ mg each and every day because your brain feeds off cholesterol as do your muscles.
What your body does not need is insulin resistance… wild fluctuations in blood sugar…caused by high sugar and carbs..this causes inflammatory conditions enough to create plaque formation in the vasculature.
Taking a statin tricks the liver into thinking it’s made it’s quota … result is brain fog.. aching muscles.
Watch this very good explanation…
A word about tinnitus… if you ever took a blood thinner or blood pressure or heart medication or even certain beauty products..your chances of having a peptide that hijacks your nicotine receptors is very high… a little unknown test will correct tinnitus is those people simply use a low dose nicotine patch (2mg) patch will throw off any peptide and reduce tinnitus within days… these peptides can stay in receptors for more than a decade…research Dr Bryan Ardis…
I used to have tinnitus… it’s gone since I tried this method.
Please do not shoot the messenger… research research research!
yep took it for 5 days . brought my tinnitus right back to where it was 20 years ago. For the last 10 years or more I hadn't noticed it at all. However I know 5 people on Ator . 2 have T , 3 dont. The 2 have been on Ator for years and cant remember if their T started before or after taking statins. Also the dosage could have something to do with it . The Ts are on 40 or more . The donts are on 20 or less.
I did a lot of research after the event. !!. There is a website where you can register side effects ( forgot name now) They sent back a graph on statins. Atorvastatin has the greatest number recorded for T . However because its the cheapest , it is also the most widely used. There are quite a few statins out there .Have a word with your chemist . Mine recommended a different one , but I decided to not to take any statin.
As jomico said = Research!!!
taking statins for high bp been on them a 2 months havent had any side affects up to press but do hear my heartbeat in one ear and the other ears has high pitch tinitus as well
