Hi all, I have had lots of high pitched noises in my ears over the past few years and just presume this is tinnitus, however over the last few weeks, I have suddenly started hearing a completely different sound. It is a low frequency humming noise, a bit like a low flying aeroplane crossed with a vibrating sound. Don't really want to contact the doctor as they are really busy at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

IS this Tinnitus?
Hi Jilly - thank you for contacting the BTA forum on Health Unlocked.
I'm sure that many members of the community will have had similar experiences to you, so I'll turn this question over to them.
From our perspective, changes in tinnitus sound can be related to elevated stress levels or occur during periods of anxiety or significant change. We would refer to this as a tinnitus 'spike', which is typically short-lived.
With that said, I'm sure the community have their own thoughts on this question.
Best wishes
