His Jenmeerkat. I've seen a video on you tube concerning this. The side effects were quite bad in as much as it caused him to start losing his eyesight. Needless to say he came off of it. He did say it reduced the t but wasn't worth the risk of losing his eyesight.

I have incurable cancer and ME I take various powerful drugs and was doing ok . I had tinnitus but it was tolerable I had it for over 20 years but it's become hellish when my hospice doctor got me to increase my 600mg a day dose of gabapentin to 1800mg . I started to fall over so reduced it was when I got to 900mg a day that my tinnitus became hellish . I came off gabapentin over 2 months as I had been on it for 5 years I stayed off it for 35 days but couldn't sleep and was very depressed due to severe tinnitus I was persuaded to go back on my 600mg dose but I dont know what to do I'm so scared I've made a mistake. I'm such a mess and just want to end my life

Hi Richard

I'm not sure if you've read all my messages . Just incase I will fill you in

I have metastatic breast cancer I was diagnosed in july 2013 . So my cancer is incurable .

I started taking gabapentin in 2014 and when I increased it to a therapeutic dose it became a problem

I started to fall over , so I reduced my dose from 1800mg a day to 1500mg then to 1200mg then to 900mg it was when I went from 1200 mg to 900mg that the horrific tinnitus started so I continued to come off gabapentin it took just over 2 months in total and I was off it for 5 weeks over those 5 weeks I barely slept, lost 8 to 10lb in weight as I was barely eating I became suicidal I tried to slit my wrists . I've never felt like that ever. I reluctantly went back on gabapentin I took 100mg fir 3 nights then 300mg for 3 nights then 600 mg for the last 20 days . I do gave better days where I can cope but there are more unbearable days sadly .

I watched the video and all it did was upset me . The guy in the video said that gabapentin gets rid of tinnitus well it's not in me infact I've had a bad period before in2016 , nothing like it is now .

I think different people react to medicines differently so it's hard to say a medicine causes something .

Hi Jen

I’ve tried Gabapentin twice for orthopedic pain. Both times I stopped taking it after 2-3 days because it made my tinnitus worse. I don’t know though if it can actually cause tinnitus. Again, I already had it.

Hi Jen

Is there any chance you can get to see your oncologist, there might be something else they can give you.

I’m really sad that you’re suffering so badly with t as this dreadful time in your life. I wish there was more I could say or help I could offer.

Take care

Hi Jen

It's a horrible condition and you really don't need this at the moment with everything else that is going on.

Are you able to go out for a walk, sometimes it really helps to get out of the house. Have you tried in ear masking aids, they can help the brain focus on another noise. I wear hearing aids with maskers built in. They do help, but the noise is still there. Mine has been very bad for the past 3 months or so, but I go through phases like this and I usually come out the other side. I take 10mg amitriptyline at night which helps me sleep, but on bad days I can increase this to 30mg.

Go to the BTA chat line and talk to someone on there, they've been very helpful to me in the past.

Please take care.

Hi Jen

I'm so very sorry. I had a bit of a panic attack today, really thought I was going to lose it. I made myself put my makeup on and got hubby to take me out. There really is nothing worse than this. It literally becomes all consuming. Have you got family and friends who can give you support? If not maybe a trip to the GP and try another antipressant.

Please cal the BTA chat line.

Thinking of you xx

Hi Ingrid

I'm sorry about your panic attack . I hope you're feeling better now?

I have contacted the BTA and talked to them on the chat option I've found once I mention I have incurable cancer they claim up and start saying they're not health professionals.

I'm on mirtazapine as it's not supposed to increase tinnitus .

Yes I'm married and hes doing his best I have a daughter who I dont see very often I know shes busy with work.

She rang me yesterday saying why sm I not taking the betahistine . I've tried to find information about on here, maybe I'm not doing it right
