Happens to me regularly. No perception of sound then sleep and it’s back. I also notice that as I become tired the tinnitus creeps back in. I always hear tinnitus upon awakening. If it is a low volume, then the sound will fade in awhile. If it is loud, then it will be with me all day. Good quality of sleep seems correlated with my brains ability to turn down the volume. I also have sleep apnea which causes me to grind my teeth which seems to contribute to louder tinnitus.

I have high pitched, very loud tinnitus in both ears and it's with me virtually 24/7. I noticed a while ago that if I had a nap at anytime, the tinnitus was louder than ever when I woke up. In reply to a previous post I made about this a few weeks ago, someone said it was bit like rebooting a computer which I think is a very good parallel. There is a scientific explanation for it and if you scroll back to find my original post, all the information is in there. Best wishes.
