Silence

I have been suffering from hearing problems since childhood and I was diagnosed with tinnitus a few years ago. My thoughts today are about how much I miss silence.

From the time I wake up to an empty flat there are two noises going in my head and I would love to wake up one morning and not hear anything but silence. I put my hearing aids in and then I need the radio or the TV on to drown out the tinnitus noise.

Silence truly is golden and it is much missed by me 😥😥😥

Hi poppyb62, I couldn't agree more- had mine 18 months now, head and both ears, it never lets up and is just too loud to ignore- god do I miss peace and quiet! Keep your chin up, you're not alone x

Hi,

I'm sure that we'd all love to experience silence again. I remember a few years back standing on the top of a hill with a friend and he said something like, "Listen to that, pure silence-brilliant". I instantly felt so deflated, especially when I took the time to think about never hearing it again.

Best wishes

Kenny

I’m right there with you. One of my favourite things to do was to listen to the night when I took my dogs for a walk. I’d just stare at the nights sky sometimes and enjoy that moment. I tried it the other night and all I heard was eeeeeeeeeeeeeee oooooooooooooo eeeeeeeeeeee oooooooooooo and thought “I’ll never hear silence again” and so I went back inside.

I sleep with a fan beside the bed the air conditioner at the foot of my bed but facing the door so I’m not cold (it’s more the motor noise I need) I have the tv on a clock to turn off 3 hours after I’m asleep and listen to the radio that I have on the wall so yeah I miss silence so much.

Deffo, pardon the pun. Silence is the one thing that I miss the most. Never to know it again! At times I do feel a little down. Knowing that I'll always have 't'

Is anyone actually working on a cure or is it not the important?

Have you checked your Vitamin B12 levels? Deficiency causes tinitus.

will get it checked at my next blood test

Surprising that you didn't get it checked so far. I am on a B12 deficiency forum which has thousands of members and almost everyone has tinitus. Once we start taking B12 shots we can see improvement although it takes a looooong time. Instead of ordering serum B12 level, see if you can get MMA test (Methyl Melonic Acid test) it's far more reliable for pinpointing B12 deficiency.
