Can noise cancelling headphones have an adverse effect on tinnitus?

When they are on, it feels almost as if there is a vacuum in them, and it worries me

With noise cancelling headphones your tinnitus is likely to sound worse unless you turn the volume up as you obviously loose any background sounds.

I wear noise cancelling ear protectors when hoovering and mowing the lawn.

Does sound like your in a vacuum.

I wear ear buds most of the time as my tinnitus is chronic but i try to keep the volume of my babbling brook down as low as i can.

My tinnitus started just two days after using a new set of noise cancelling buds. Often wonder if there is a connection.

I am using the new Bose Sleepbuds at night with more success than not. On a bad day my tinnitus 'screams' and nothing can mask or replace the sound other than an audio book or sleep. On days when my tinnitus is average the Bose Sleepbuds help. I only use noise-cancelling headphones when I travel and am not sure I like the 'vacuum' as you describe that they generate. They do help though by quieting the world for me
