Tinnitus - still the elephant in the room

Having been in bed for 5 days with a severe infection and struggling with the dosage of antibiotics , it's struck me that tinnitus is still ignored as having an impact on ones health. Whilst my surgery and friends have been great , saying that the concerns of carting for my father - recently in hospital again , probably hasn't helped . But when I say I don't think over 6 years of dealing with loud and painful tinnitus - and trying to distract - has been that helpful either , I am literally met with silence. Managing tinnitus whilst at such a low ebb is hard and I am sure impedes recovery as it saps energy. Has anything changed in this regard? I'm not asking for sympathy, would just hope that in the future others who have tinnitus who aren't well at times, are listened to . Even better if help could prevent people getting so debilitated each illness isn't harder to manage.

I understand what you are saying totally. I am aged 79 and have only suffered with a type of Pulsatile tinnitus since last summer following a virus. So much that I read here does not apply to me. However the one thing that is significant is that we are all unique and one size does not fit all. My ENT Specialist says I should manage my life in the way I do if it works even if it does not correspond to the Tinnitus party line. You have my sympathy and understanding. Get well soon. I also use the word optimism - positive does not work for me. xxx

Hi Lindsay,

Other folk cannot possibly understand what we hear and feel. What can they say ....... but hugs are always welcome, so I am sending a virtual hug 🤗 to a lovely lady.

Hi. Thanks to you all. I don't how to reply to you all apart from.by replying to myself ( how narcistic! ) . I went back to go at noon yesterday , sent to emergency hospital admission and then operation at 5 pm. Fortunately it's gone well. It has been great that for this ' problem ' I was taken seriously by hospital . If the doctors didn't give me anti depressants everytime I went with my tinnitus ( I have unused scripts !) I might have gone sooner. But I've managed first time in hospital with screeching tinnitus so am very proud ☺
