Things not been good recently

My left ear I feel is getting slowly worse over these past 3 years 😪 today I have fullness so bad, pain, earache, the low humming I have all the time is loud again, and the other loud hum that I have which is the one that switches on and off like a spasm is really sensitive, as soon as any quiet happens, even the few seconds silence between adverts on the telly, it hums on and off, as it’s switches on when there is no sound entering my ear, but even last night, having to sleep with that ear on a pillow speaker, it was like that on/off hum was trying to fight the sound I could feel it trying to switch on 😪 I’ve always had ringing in my ears, but I’m used to that ,even tho every so often the past few weeks that’s got louder then goes again, I could live with this low hum all the time as well, but no way can I live with the loud on off hum I have on top of that, and the fullness and pain, it’s awful and I feel like what have I done to deserve this torture 😪😪 got ent again next month, I’m not holding much hope, as no one in the health profession seems to care, my ear drum hurts so much right now I just feel like I wanna rip it out xx

I'm sorry that you're struggling Momoko. Ear pain like this could mean an infection, so please make an appointment with your doctor to get it checked out.

Warmest wishes

Hi Nic

Over the past nearly 3 years I’ve seen many GPs all of them look in my ear, can’t see anything wrong and dismiss me, I’m really hoping I don’t get the same from the ent next month, all the doctors I’ve seen say an infection wouldn’t last this long without me ending up in A&E and I don’t have a fever with it 😔

Yay Momoko, unfortunately neither a GP or an ENT consultant can make a definitive diagnosis (if there is anything wrong) just by looking in your ear or throat. They would have to have the results from an mri and a ct scan to try and rule out any possible underlying problems for the pain and earache. ENT probably would not do either scan for T alone.

I would suggest that after you have been fully examined by ENT depending on what they say ask if they think an mri scan could be helpful. Obviously they may suggest that so you won't have to ask. Good luck.

Best Wishes

Depends on ent and probably the politics of their resources. I went to a local hospital and they did MRI quick but I've been to bigger hospitals and.they never even do MRIs

Yay Brett_angel, you're totally correct. I waited a whole year just to see ENT and have two scans done!

Recently I had the booking letter to book online for ent. I live near royal berks hospital and that came up as usual option. Had an wait until.jan to see someone. There were 2 other hospitals as option but small places. One it was only 3 weeks ro wait so I booked it. I thought it would.be much worse as royal berks is supposed.to have the better drs bla bla when I got.to the small place they did all the same assessment and I had an MRI the week after. So shows that it really does depend on.area and hospital . They were much more chilled as well.

I’ve been to the doctors many many times I saw a ent in October 2016, no one seems interested, because I don’t have a temperature and when they look in my ear they can’t see anything wrong they dismiss me, the ent I saw was very disinterested she couldn’t wait to get me out, felt like I was time wasting, left very upset.. one doctor I saw when I said it felt like a recurring infection told me that’s rubbish as by now I would be in A&E by now very poorly if a infection was to go on this long!! No one wants to investigate further, I’m hoping my second ent appointment next month I can get a scan!

Hope so. Habe u tried a chiropractor as sometimes neck probs can effect ears. Ive had this happen on a few occasions and the chiropractor has been amazing. Hxx

I saw a oestopath about a month ago, that helped relieve head pressure I had but that’s it 😔

Sorry to hear your struggling at the moment M79, but as you have lived with T for so long I am sure you will find some way of getting back to where you were. I too get pain in my ears which doesn't make sense to me if T is not a physical condition.

Please see my reply to Momoko which explains the pain

Hi. sorry you are struggling . I empathise - I have pain from my ear / tinnitus 24/7. My audiologist explained that it isn't always an infection , and it is because the noise is so loud it 'becomes' a sensation , which can of course cause pain. Unfortunately there is not pain killer for it . I was so ' pleased ' to hear this as i felt she actually understood and knows what she is talking about .

So sorry to hear your pain, this is a terrible

Affliction that I suffer also. And yes the Drs seem not to take this seriously, they are

Not informed on this that’s why they seem so arrogant. Praying you find some silence

As I often wonder what I did to deserve this also. DH
