I'm a tinnitus/hyperacausis sufferer and find flying difficult. I have a 7hr flight coming up and am looking for some way of blocking out the unbearable noise on the plane. I have earplugs but they aren't much use. Has anyone tried noise cancelling headphones?

Hi I also suffer after flying my ears are so pressured which makes T louder ear plugs didn't help me either, am also interested if anyone has some tips
Yes! Maybe I can help! Got the top notch Bose ones on my son's recommendation as he said they were the best for you cancelling. Bought them at the airport after a 9 hour single engine, Delta flight where we were sitting over the wings and on touch down, things were grim!! Used them on next short flight, just switched on, and then linked them to my phone..so all good in US with my limited music (son's funky rap downloads). I couldn't link them properly to the film on the long flight back, (you should sort this out before you fly), so ...I watched the film with sub titles and kept the noise cancelling headphones on, (you prob know, you have to have them switched on, to cancel noise effectively, I didn't know this ..duh!). But, they were brilliant. If I'd had music on my phone, I would have been laughing. I did try cable linking them to the in flight entertainment, but my headphones kept telling me they were trying to connect to my phone, even when I had turned the phone off. Then I got the film sound for the music and distant voices but not dialogue! Even so, I'm sure if I had got my Bose Headphones before the trip, or had managed to access the WiFi on the plane, I could have used the Bose app on my phone to sort it all out. The attendant was a bit annoyed that I wouldn't take off my headphones to speak to him (if you speak with the headphones on, you have to whisper, or your voice is deafening!) I do hope this helps. The headphones really helped me. I was ok coming back, address as T was concerned.

Hi, I have a similar problem flying with tinnitus and hyperacusis, and a few years ago I bought the Bose QuietComfort headphones. They're great for cutting out the low frequency aircraft engine noise, and also for making the overhead announcements and crying babies a bit more bearable.
They do have a downside for me, which is that cutting out external noise makes the tinnitus more intrusive. They're good for the hyperacusis but bad for the tinnitus, so it's a bit of a balancing act for me, and I tend to just put them on when the noise is really unbearable, rather than leaving them on all the time.
I'd definitely recommend giving them a go.
I got the Bose QC15. Works very well cancelling out a lot of the noise. There not the top notch one's, but good for me.
Thanks for your recommendations. I'll give the headphones a try.
