Tinnitus Therapist

So, after 10 months of living with ‘T’ I finally had my appointment with my tinnitus therapist ‘Bethan’ today.

I was in there for more than and hour and she couldn’t of been more informative, caring or empathetic. Compare that the doctor who 10 months ago told me to “stop drinking coffee and learn to live with it”. He didn’t even refer me.

Surprisingly she’s also having me fitted for a ‘combi’ hearing aid. I know that these don’t work for everyone. However if it reduces the noise by 10%, I’ll take it.

She seemed to think it was a no brainier to at least try one. And oddly I have absolutely no aversion to wearing one. In fact, I welcome it.

I know some of us in hear have had horrible none eventful referral appointments. I can’t thank Bethan enough though. She was brilliant. And although not able to offer any permanent solutions, she has left me me with a much more positive outlook. And also told me to live my life and not restrict my life. I thought I knew a lot about tinnitus. I didn’t really know that half of it.

Hello Steve,

I'm glad to hear you have had a positive consultation with a tinnitus specialist.

I was lucky my go was very understanding about it when I was so distressed in the early stages, he referred me straight to our local audiology dept. where I have a lovely supportive tinnitus specialist. I have been lucky because I don't think every go or hospital is so clued up! Just to know you have that understanding and support is a massively helpfull factor though so I know how you feel.

When T came to me I used to see the hearing therapist at St. Johns, Livingston 2 or 3 times a year for about 3 years. I always came away feeling much more positive and determined to get to get to the point where T had no effect on me.

Thats a short but incredibly positive story. I’ve just been once after 11 months of T and feel much better about everything

So pleased to hear you had a positive experience. There are some excellent people out there working in the field, and we are working hard to improve the knowledge and empathy of GPs too.
