Hi. I have recently developed what is like a generator / washing machine on spin sound. This is very different to my normal hiss from h--l. It'd be fascinating g if not so troublesome. I think it can sound like all sorts .

Ive got an appointment with ENT/Maxillofacial Doctor (saying the word is causing me more discomfort than the symptom) at the hospital as not sure if its a type of tinnitus. Seems more physical. I feel a vibration. There are so many different sympoms to Tinnitus . I do get the same as you Lindsay. That brrrrr like a deisel engine. Very annoying. Ive sort of learned to ignore it. I plod on. Hope you can do the same. I know everyones Tinnitus is very different and on different levels.

Cheers. Interesting as I too have TMJ. Five years ago I was healthy now I have a healthy knowledge of acronyms. Good luck with the appointment ☺

It sounds as though you have hyperacusisis ( hope I got the spelling right ) which means you are utra-sensitive to external sounds that most people can hardly hear. I have a similar sound to you, a bit like a mechanical tractor burring or rumbling in the background complementing Tinnitus ( internal sound) in my head. Pink noise therapy can help you to de-sensitise the noise but you have to find a trained therapist to guide you through the process. For now I use a sound generator using white noise to mask the sound at night which is a great help. I leave it on sleep-mode all night long and get at least 6 or 7 hours sleep. That annoying burring noise I hear originates from a restaurant with a high pitched hum a few minutes walk from where I live. From an air-conditioned fan on day and night. And yes, I'm leaving the area soon. Try to avoid living in an area where gas central heating is used as the hum from the gas boilers is very, very annoying for us gifted with super hearing and Tinnitus.

Best Wishes Bruv.

Im not sure if im replying on the correct bit. Not quiet got the hang of this yet. Thanks Lindsay. Sure it will all go ok. Ill just grab the doctor in a private part and say 'now we are'nt going to hurt each other are we'. That normally works :-) Lucky the Doc is a man. lol. Do think this is one of those things one has to live with though. The more I read the more it gets baffleing. Next thing It will be blamed on aliens visiting in the night and sticking probes in our ears..... Though I did hear something wierd last night...do do dee do...do do dee do.

I think I'd be quite happy for aliens to stick probes in me if they could improve my T. Drumming in your ear sounds like it might be pulsatile tinnitus - if so, all is not lost as there things they can do about that.

Yes I have pulsatile tinnitus along with a couple of other noises. Cause of mine - hearing loss so I am picking up the sound of my heart and circulation because the carotid artery runs very close to the hearing nerve. Mine also sounds very much like a generator - when I first experienced my tinnitus I thought it was the boiler or the fridge running - then realised that the noise was coming from me. And the more stressed I got the louder it was because the stress and anxiety were causing my heart to beat faster. I too felt it throughout my body.
