I am hoping someone can give their thoughts on tinnitus and jaw/wisdom teeth issues.
Here is my story....
I have been suffering with tinnitus now for around 4 years, MRI clear, hearing perfectly normal, no infections, ear drum perfectly healthy.
I understand tinnitus can happen for no reason and maybe I am searching for one and need to accept that mine has no direct link to any health issue.
However, following a CT scan of my sinuses they found a wisdom tooth stuck in my jaw line with no where to go. It's on the left side which is where I have the tinnitus, may be just a coincidence!
My tinnitus has been that bad over the past few weeks my ear feels like it physically aches and is uncomfortable. I went to the doctors today to rule out any possible ear infection and as I suspected no infection, all completely healthy which is good news but also left me feeling really frustrated.
The only thing the doctor noticed was the temporomandibular joints (TMJ) on the left side of my jaw are inflamed but doesn't believe this to affect tinnitus, I just need to see my dentist about this.
Has anyone experienced any issues with their jaw/teeth/wisdom teeth and their tinnitus?
Just looking to put my mind at rest and I guess accept there is no reason for it and look at ways to manage it.
Thanks

Good luck with this. I have tinnitus and also had a problem with my wisdom teeth discovered last year. Perhaps the two are linked. My wisdom teeth are all still in my jaw and have not broken into the gum. Doubt they will now as I'm 36. Keen to hear if having them removed has helped anyone else's tinnitus.
I only have one wisdom tooth, upper left side classed as unerrupted as its in my jaw and doesnt have any space to come down. Doctor doesnt think its linked but its the last thing on my list of possible causes so fingers crossed!
Hi, I started with T a year last July, Im under a specialist as i have tmjd.. this can cause T mine is horrendous its there 24/7 high pitched never goes away never no relief... Had a jaw wash out a mth ago today in the hope it would sort jaw and T out but it hasn't, I would ask you dentist to refer you to the maxillofacial unit at yr local hospital... Hope yr having a better day today x
Thank you so much for your reply and sorry to read you are still suffering. Mine is also very high pitched and is pretty much there all the time now but this happened very recently as it used to be mainly night time before now its all day. I had a nose operation in January and a week later I noticed my T had gone I was so happy but it was shortlived. I've coped really well over the past few years but the past week has been horrendous. I have dentist next Thursday so will get my referral and take it from there. My doc mentioned tmjd but no idea what it is, can you recommend any good websites with information? Xx
Hi, Hope yr doing a bit better, tmj is When this joint is injured or damaged, it can lead to a localized pain disorder called temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome. Causes of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome include injury to the teeth or jaw, misalignment of the teeth or jaw, teeth grinding, poor posture, stress, arthritis, and gum chewing.
I have always grinded my teeth never use to think anything about it lol but paying for it later on in life...
Pain or tenderness of your jaw.
Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints.
Aching pain in and around your ear.
Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing.
Aching facial pain.
Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth.
Pins and needles in face
Tinnitus
Hearing loss
And many more things it can even effect your back shoulders...
Yr dentist should be able to tell you if you have tmjd,
Not really looked on and sites about it the hospital gave me all the info.

Thank you for the link, just had a good read and its made me feel better knowing I'm not going mad after all. Fingers crossed for my dentist appointment next week xx
I had no tinnitus at all.. I had an operation when I was 16 years old and they pulled my 4 wisdom teeth. Now a week after this tinnitus started , and now 1 years later. It's still there. and it's only getting worse and hearing loss also more and more every year.
I tried almost everything but nothing helps nothing gives me relief. This year my girlfriend had also operation at her wisdom teeth. all 4 at once. 2 weeks after this, ringing in the ears. I am sure that there is a connection with jaw, teeth and tinnitus for a lot of people. I dont understand why they dont do more tests on this direction.
Well yeah... trying to live with it and hope one day for a cure...
I only recently started my Tinnitus journey and quite a few times I've noticed (especially today) that when my pulsatile tinnitus is worse so is the growing/soreness in my wisdom tooth.
I too wonder if they are connected.
I hope you feel at least a little bit better soon xo

I'm 23 years old and started my tinnitus last year. Coincidently, I also had a dentist visit where he talked about my wisdom tooth. I also had a root canal done during that visit. 1 month later, for no apparant reason my tinnitus started. I've tried everything and nothing really works. My wisdom tooth is still in my jaw it will be difficult to remove it right now according to my dentist. We have to wait for it to move a bit further so it can be removed easily later on.
I was also looking over other people on the internet with almost exactly the same situation which leads me to believe that there is indeed a connection between the jaw / teeth with tinnitus for some people.
I have a capped molar in the upper jaw which is the same side as my ear problems and have been told dentis wont remove it sas although its permanently uncomfortable, there is no infection I have offered to pay [am on nhs]but dentist says he wont remove a tooth that hasn't any infection even though 20 years ago when my old dentist capped the tooth he said it would only last 5 years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,will badger my dentist again
