Tinnitus/Menieres

Hi

Just looking for a bit of advice for about one and a half years I have suffered 24/7 from Tinnitus after a bad bout of vertigo.

I have been referred for an MRI scan which I get later this month.

I went to ENT about a month ago and after a hearing test I had a 5 minute consultation with the ENT specialist and was told I would get an MRI and later hearing aids.

My left ear is the one giving me the trouble. I did a bit of research myself as the vertigo was accompanied by balance problems.

I asked the specialist if it could be Menieres and she said it doesn't really matter as there is nothing they can do!

Was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or should I be getting alternative treatment.

The specialist is so wrong about help for Menieres.There is no cure for it but lots of meds to help the symptoms.

Menieres can take years to diagnose as symptoms start to show and having tests to rule it out.

Don't worry or think about Menieres as you might not have it and you would really know if you had it from the problems it causes.

Stay positive for now but if keep getting vertigo see your doctor as there are meds to stop it.

Hi georig, There are treatments for menieres and vertigo. Glynis when she sees your post will advise you about menieres.

As regards vertigo my husband suffers from this and he was first of all prescribed prochlorperazine by our GP and then when he went to ENT the consultant changed his medication to betahistine 8mg 3 times a day which he is still taking now just twice daily and hasn`t had a vertigo attack for a long time.

It can also be caused by some heart conditions.

Also too much caffeine or aspirin.

Sad news about your appointment with the specialist but not at all surprising. NHS support for tinnitus is minimal at best.
