Worst Night

So I have my ENT appointment on the 15th of September and I've been doing my best to live a normal life. Sound enrichment is definitely helping with sleep. And generally keeping busy I find is the best therapy. The reason I'm

posting is last night I had my absolute worst episode of T. I worked till 9 at night came into the house and almost immediately it started raging. I physically had to lie down. There was no escape from it. Not even my normally masking techniques. Managed to sleep and apart from a little continuation this morning I'm now back to normal management. Last night I really felt like I took a step back and cannot wait for my ent appointment. I'm not sure what's going to happen or what I should say to convey what's been happening to me. Normally I'm good. Last night was horrible. Regardless. I hope all you guys and girls are doing well. I think of us all a lot. :) x

Hello Steve,

Sorry to hear that you had a bad night. The thing with T is that it is unpredictable. I have it pretty much 24/7 but some days the intrusiveness goes through the roof. I may have slept well, no alcohol, no loud noises and it just kicks off.

I now just try and get through these bad days and hope the next day is a lot better. One thing that I know upsets it is stress and worry. I know that it is easy to say "just relax". I take a chill-pill, go to bed with my sound box on.

Hi Ade. Thanks for the reply. I am too 24/7. And like you it just goes off the scale sometimes. Last night was just the worst I've ever experienced. It completely floored me. You're right about stress and chilling. I probably don't do enough of it. My oasis sound box is a life saver some times. It just didn't touch it last night. We bounce back though. Hope your welll

Steve - don't forget you were tired after work and therefore less resilient ...and I often find when I return to the close confines of home that my T seems much louder - being in a walled environment. Also if you were dehydrated that would have made matters worse.

hi steve, sorry to hear of your exp.i too have days where its off the scale but your lucky you can sleep! i need tabs despite sound generator at bedside i went 5 days and nights with no sleep and get very stressed when i need to do something or go somwhere different as i used to travel all over scotland evry day AND play in a band 3 nights aweek for past 30 years i find it extremely gard to come to grips with my T, dont expect too much from E.N.T. they will test your hearing then give you hearing aids and thats it not much help about managing your T im afraid if its anything like edinburgh E.N.T but good luck hope you et some respite soon and help cheers craw.

I've been listening to ocean sounds and other nature sounds for years as a subconscious coping strategy for my tinnitus. Recently though I discovered 'brown sound'. It is by far the best thing to mask my type of tinnitus. It seems to help block out most external noise too which can sometimes be a trigger and a stress point for me. Also, I've listened to other types of brown noise which are not as good as this one I found. I guess what I'm saying is that it helps to find the exact perfect masking sound specifically for you. I still get some bad nights though, especially if I've had a tough day at work or have lots on my mind. As I get older I do seem to get better and better at cultivating a peaceful mind and better at avoiding stressful situations. Listening to audiobooks of Eckhart Tolle have been a literal lifesaver.

Hope it is all quieter for you Steve. That is the way it goes, good days and bad days. But, it does settle - the audiologist told me that when I first got T (2 and a half years ago) and I really didn't believe them. Mine was horrendously painful too. Over time, I noticed minutes, hours when I hadn't been aware of it - always when my brain was distracted with nice things - and then those quiet times got longer and longer. Now I can go for a whole day without hearing it. But .......... yes, stress certainly affects it. Also, my ear canals were inflamed and that made it louder but after a couple of days of the ear spray it is calming down again. Time and patience is all we have and HOPE. Love, Angela xx

Hi all, I find it difficult to mask my t, it's always there 24/7 only sleep when I take meds I hear t over most things when outside drives me nuts and to drink when I can't cope 😩😩😩😩😩 any one else have t like this?????
