I've definitely experienced this - but haven't heard it lately. I was very dehydrated when it first appeared. Could be to do with blood flow (your carotid artery is very near the hearing system) - keep drinkig...water!!!!

I agree with berry76, although don't bother with Magnesium tablets to help the blood flow. I've spent a few quid on this supplement and I may as well stuck a leech to me ear.

Yeah, you'll probably find you'll hear all sorts from time to time, I do, but invariably they are transient or drop in intensity. I've only got one tone there all the time in my left ear, the head hissing and static racket comes and goes and fluctuates from 'hardly noticeable' to 'pretty intolerable'. Stressing about it defo makes it worse imo, but I know that's it's a massive challenge not to!

Thanks. I do experience high pitched hissing sounds as well, but the humming is horrendous, so loud. Trying not to stress and just going with it, and keeping busy.

Yes, like a generator, usually when I'm tired, this is on top of the screeching 24/7 tinnitus. The funny thing is every time I take a flight the generator stops, but after the return flight it comes back, so maybe something to go with pressure, drives me nuts!

Not flown with this racket in my head yet. But usually my ears are quite painful under air pressure drops on flights, so that's useful to know, thanks.

Hi. I normally have a high pitched ringing in my right ear. I have a cold (man flu) and a low pitched humming started to sound as well. A bit disconcerting and I am hoping that it stops when my cold gets better.

However. I am used to my t changing on volume, intensity and tone

Regards

Ade

How do you know the dB and frequency of your t? When you drum do you use custom made plugs? I am using 15dB plugs. I know you can get 25dB but not sure I would be able to hear everything. I did a gig first time in 3 months and had very loud t for hour and half, and then it went down to usual level. Whats your t like after gigging, interested to know.

hi muso 12, mines loud most of he time every morning so hard to judge it i have to try to get it down every morning, sometomes after a gig it goes down sometimes not, but its like that most days sadly, ive been using different pulgs over the 4 and a more years ive had T i started with 15 db then after trying others tried 26 then after so long getting stressed about it tried plugs that are 40 % reduction, i still dont believe the audiologists advice that " if i wear the plugs the T wont get louder" as i th8ink mine has got louder. i used to play reg every week 3 nights for years now i hardly play at all s mines so loud it takes away the want to play, and i dont enjoy it s cant hear much with those plugs in, also get stressed about a gig now where i could play in my sleep before im sure this wont help yoiu as nothing ive heard over the years has really helped me ive just got on with it but sadly not in a good place hope you fare better keep in touch craw.

Hi musician12, Sorry for the delay in replying - had a hectic week last week.

Yes I have a humming sound but not all the time and berry76 is correct - it is to do with blood flow as the carotid artery runs very close to the hearing nerve. I was told that because I have lost about 50% of my hearing I am picking up the sound of my heart and circulation. So I have a heartbeat sound and humming and was told it is pulsatile tinnitus and as jojo313 says it is like a generator noise. I also have a hissing noise and also a faint burglar alarm sound.

Luckily I don`t always experience all these noises at the same time and to be honest I`ve pretty much come to terms with my tinnitus after nearly 3 years. I was in a bad way at the beginning but my GP gave me a beta blocker to help with the anxiety attacks and that had another benefit as it reduced my heart rate and so lessened the noise. I also had counselling in the beginning and joined a support group which I still go to every week.

I think that knowing what is causing my tinnitus helps and I feel fortunate in that because most people don`t know why they have these invasive noises.

Hope this helps. Love Lynne xx

Thanks Lynne. Sorry to hear about your struggle. I am only 4 months on. I do not have hearing loss, could it still be cartoid? I asked the consultant if it could be to do with blood flow, but said no. I also have a high pitch whistling and fizzing sound. I also have a heart condition, it fast beats sometimes, appreciate any advice from your experience. I have joined local t group which has helped alot. Still early days I guess.

Hi musician12, As you don`t have hearing loss I can`t really say if it could be your carotid artery. It does sound similar to my symptoms. The only thing I can say is that for many years even before my hearing loss I used to hear the sound of what I thought was a generator, sometimes when I first went to bed and lay on my left hand side. My pulstatile tinnitus is on the right side. This must have been mild tinnitus without me realising.

You say you have a heart condition - could that be a clue as to why you have the humming noise. Have you had any scans on your ears. I had an MRI Scan and a Doppler Scan and everything was normal there.

Yes the support group has helped me too and this forum.

As you say it`s early days for you - it might be worth you investigating things further - I think different specialists tell you different things because they don`t really know when it comes to tinnitus.

Love Lynne xx

Hi musician, I don't have humming. In fact, since I acquired T 2+ years ago the sounds have changed several times. It seems that once I habituate, along pops another noise! But I seem to be winning! Lynne's posts as always contain solid, useful information. Best wishes, Angela xx

I hear all sorts, from real tunes to musical sound. I used to think it was a neighbour but I realise now it is musical tinnitus. Most of the time it is quite pleasant and varied. My doctor has changes my pain killers - I am elderly with arthritis. Actually I prefer the music I got with my former pain killers. I get hymns, national anthems, music from my youth..... At the moment its not so nice, a bit like a doleful opera.

I hope your humming noise is more pleasant than not. My best wishes to you.

Ggran.
