Are you now taking your thyroxine well away from food, drinks (other than water) supplements and other medicines?

Doing that can have the effect of an increase in dose.

If you absolutely knew that you needed an extra 50 micrograms, then increasing by 50 micrograms might not be much of an issue. But you don't. We see regularly that people even having only 25 micrograms extra suddenly find it too much after a few days. Though before that increase they were convinced they were massively under-dosed.

Take it easy. Take it steadily. Get re-tested after four or so weeks. Then think about where you are.

I, stupidly upped mine by 25mcgs a day without my doctors knowledge as thought I needed it...after a few days I started getting chest pains and muscle ache...I couldn't figure out why...then when it got to the stage of my heart feeling like it was going to burst out of my chest I realised it must be the meds...went back to 50mcgs a day and all was ok...am now alternating my dose between 50 and 75 with my doctors full consent and everything seems to be going well....take it easy, let your body get to grips with the meds...a little at a time and if you get bad symptoms when increasing just know that you can increase in smaller steps....and don't try to increase too quickly!i learnt the painful way! Good luck :)

Hi rod

Thanks for the advice..I do go back in 3 week so should have some idea where I am.

Was just a bit worried about thinking that upping 50mg at once might do more harm than good.

After suffering with thyroid problems for 7 year and having a full thyroidectomy last oct I just really want my life back and feel normal again.

Thanks again.

I haven't had any symptoms as such yet..just my gums started to bleed and I ache all over so panicked a bit.

I always feel rubbish anyway so I'm just trying to get my levels to suit ME.

Good luck.

Hi Jax Safest way is slow increases with repeat bloods, TSH, T4 and Free T3. you might get away with it, but I personally would not do it.I am afraid it does take ages to be OK, you need TSH, T4 and Free T3 tests done regularly until right. They were always done not always now, it is down to costs which is why a lot of us pay for them. Symptoms of over treatment ( Hyper) are sometimes the same as under treatment ) Hypo). Life is complicated!

Best wishes,

Jackie
