Could Adrenal Fatigue be mistaken for Hypothyroidism?

My view - yes I think AF can be mistaken for hypo

Not full blown adrenal failure - fatigue yes - but having struggled with hypo and adrenals there are very fuzzy lines between the two. In my experience its very hard to find symptoms that are solely hypo. It makes it very hard to sort out, if you see my post today re test results then you will see what I mean!!

Hi Puzzled by your remark about A..F which is Atrial Fibrillation, quite common but also more common with thyroid disease.In that case the thyroid disease usually brings on the A.F

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Mist endo`s and some private doctors , reckon to get the thyroid right first and then look at adrenal function/disease, I think that may be because cortisone ( for adrenals) is such a horrible drug best to be sure it is needed first. It does often work like that.

I would be sure my T4 Free T3 and TSH are right for me, first. if on treatment the T4 normally needs to be in top third of range and FT3 near the top, to feel well. Of course, every one is different. Make sure you have your test results and ranges ( all vary) and post them on here if you like Some times GP`s do not any longer do the essential 3 tests, costs.You can payf or them. Also some GP`s say that the results are fine, but not what we would expect if on treatment. Also when first on treatment doses should be increased, according to bloods and how you feel ,until right.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi. Had recent results given to me by doc at hospital.

T4 = 9 - 21 pmol / l

TSH = 0.2 - 4.5 mu / l

Apparently, everythings within normal range and my thyroid was only down due to illness at the time.

Why then, was i treated for hypothyroidism for 5 yrs, when i know my results always came back ok?

Hi Maybe I read it wrongly, middle of the night ( hypo for you ) but did you put your T4 was 1? Yet you were told you were not Hypo.? Also you always need Free T3 done.I was originally treated with very low FT3 only and lower TSH than that. I have Hashimoto, quite badly, very enlarged thyroid + nodules,, bad symptoms and are treated on my T4 and FT3 results as, now on treatment TSH immeasurable. This unusual but I have heard of other people I mean) Were those results on treatment? What treatment have you been on. What were your tSH, T4 and Free T3 originally. They were all done 5 years ago, now in my opinion just cost cutting. Can you pay for a test if GP will not,? You do need all 3 and really the other associated tests. Diabetes, vit D, B12 + Foliates and iron/ ferritin. These are mostly autoimmune and hormonal.You also need an adrenal test and possibly parathyroid test best one for adrenal is only through a dpc as includes cortisone tablet. If you cannot have TSH, T4 and Free T3 done, if you can pay for them. I use Blue Horizon, quote TUK 10 for a discount, either main TUK site r main Blue horizon tests. Venous blood £61 and finger prick slightly more. Very good Lab well known by doctors, if you wish to show them the results for treatment. If very out they also check by their Harley St. doc and let you know Then if you feel ill and are not getting the right treatment, see another Endo, but choose carefully yourself.For NHS Endo`s Louise has a list, louise.warvill@thyroid.uk.org I see a good one privately, with a private consultant you just pay consultation and if no insurance they tell the GP what tests to do. Any way drugs are always through the GP, this is not the case with a private doc.only consultants. Of curse, they would do all the tests you need and then you would have the correct treatment. You do need a referral for any consultant. I see a private one who treats everything for me.

I hope that helps.

Best wishes,

Jackie
