Also am I correct in thinking early as poss AM to take test re hypothyroid ? My last test was taken about 11 am and I had been on a contraceptive pill microgynon for a year, I stopped taking this last december so hopefully this will be out of my system now, just wonder if it affected previous result which came back at a 'normal' 1.8 (TSH)

Hi I have never heard of this. Best to do blood test for thyroid as early as possible and to not take thyroid meds for 12 hours before, also do not take Beta Blockers before. Also if posting them, you need them fresh,, so, only send them/do them Mon to Thurs, as we have such bad post! All this can effect the blood results for thyroid. I have lots and have for many years, so I could tell by experimenting. Also vets for any years ,have refused to do thyroid bloods on pets etc ,if the drug has been taking that day. My GP loves that when I tell her!!!

Best wishes,

jackie

Thanks Jackie, the private test pack is quite expensive and this will be the first time that I am tested for anything more than TSH or FT4, so want to make sure that I give it the best shot in terms of accuracy.Iread somewhere something abour eostrogen and the thyroid, and am maybe confusing this with affects on the test lol. I am waiting until tuesday to undertake the test, and will keep blood in fridge until I take to the post office in the afternoon, I am guessing this is the best course of action.

Thanks again for advice :-)

Hi If you are taking Oestrogen ,it does effect the thyroid , to the good. However, I have never heard of it effecting the test adversely

Are you using Blue Horizon? I always do, they are so good. Also their Harley Street doctor looks at them and tells you if something glaringly wrong. All the docs know them as the same Labs as all the private hospitals. all use.

If you reply to someone you need to click on "reply to this" under their post.,or we often do not know.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Yes I am using blue horizon, and its good to hear they are reputable ! I read something about oestrogen and uptake of thyroid hormones, I put two and two together and assumed the pill would either inhibit the body from receiving adequate levels of thyroid hormones or give a false high in tests. Confused was not the word,so thank you for this info Jackie :-)
