om days lol i hope not!......i will mention it at the docs next app...
I get very itchy ankles feel a bit swollen had it for years but has never got worse just annoying x
Ditto. A condition that only started after I was put on levothyroxine. First, it was my left ankle, then it stopped and moved to my right ankle, then that stopped and until recently, it was only my right ankle where the skin is now rough and bumpy.
Then nothing for several months until I increased my thyroxine meds from 100mg to 125mg and the itching started up again on both ankles, then stopped after a few weeks.
Showed it to my doc and he bizarrely said that it was varicose veins! At that point I gave up even mentioning the condition again. Subjectively, I'd say that there is a connection between the meds and the itching which seems to be more prevalent when I'm in bed and can drive me crazy sometimes.
Hi it is probably a stupid question but are you sure the skin there just is not dry? When mine is really itchy ,I realise I have not been using moisterisier .

Both my adult son and daughter scratched their shins consistently for years, my son is still doing it. My daughter, since treating her thyroid and adrenals, has stopped scratching. My son is still doing it and it must be several years now. I have finally persuaded him to get his thyroid etc checked and we are waiting for the results in a few days.......Val
what medication are you taking?
This is from medscape:
" Pretibial myxedema (PTM) or, more appropriately, thyroid dermopathy is a term used to describe localized lesions of the skin resulting from the deposition of hyaluronic acid, usually as a component of thyroid disease. Although the condition is most often confined to the pretibial area, it may occur anywhere on the skin. It is nearly always associated with Graves disease (see Graves Disease for more information) "
Treatment is with hydrocortisone cream...... you can buy that over the counter easily enough...... E45 do one..... worth a go perhaps?
I have had a red rash on my left shin for about a year and diagnosed thyroid for 4 years. No rash on my right, but both itch badly now and then. The doc gave me a steroid cream which does help but I hate using it. I'm hoping I don't end up like some of those pics.
I used to prone to itchy shins myself but I found using plenty of E45 lotion helped a lot calomine lotion also works as well, but the secret is to moisturise every day as I have noticed my skin is a lot drier since I have had hasimo avoid hot baths also
Helios Urtical cream really works for me. Just ordered some more in.
