Am i making things worse - altering levo doses to combat anxiety.

under my doctor i have a prescription for 75mcg of levo. After visiting an endo in November he suggested i dropped to 50mcg as i was getting anxiety and heart twinges and panic attacks. Have felt better since i terms of panic attacks but am so tired and still anxious that some days i cant get out of bed.

Am frightened of going back upto 75mcg as i dont want panic attacks again as they were horrible. At the time was on Goldshield tabs. My 50mcg is almus which appears to be ok. Does anyone notIce a salty taste with the 25mcg? Presume its the fillers but strange its not there with the 50mcg.

Anyway i picked up a repeat prescription on friday night and after speaking with my pharmacy they had some 25mcg tabs that were by mercury pharma. Have taken 1/2 a tablet for the last 4 days to try and get myself back up. Have noticed a slight improvement in my anxiety, however yesterday i had the most strange feeling in my throat - almost as if the new dose even this small has woken my thyroid and now its sore. It isnt sore when i swallow but it feels like my thyroid is inflamed or something and today i have felt glandy and very tired. My voice isnt hoarse and i cant see a lump but i am worried ive started a goitre or something.

Could it be coincidence, am i messing with my system too much, could i be allergic to this brand or company? Should i stop the tabs or carry on as it will get worze before its better.

Help me please im so confused and scared im killing myself slowly!

Have a look here:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

Details of all UK levothyroxine products.

You will see that Almus is not a maker but simply packaging. Check the Patient Information Leaflet.

You will also see that Goldshield simply renamed themselves Mercury Pharma.

We actually only have three makers in the UK - Actavis, Mercury Pharma and Wockhardt. Any other packaging is one of these re-branded. Wockhardt only make 25 mcg. Actavis only make 50and 100 mcg.

Levothyroxine is salts. I would say that it probably wasn't the levo causing the symptoms you describe but adrenal fatigue.

Hi A lot of endo`s routinely do an ultra sound of thyroid with these type of problems. I would at least ask the GP for one, so simple. Also make sure you have had a Free T3 test. Diagnosis and treatment used to be on TSH, T4 and Free T3. It is all about costs. If GP will not do it ( it is the NHS here ) then there are ways of getting it done. My endo and I consider it essential.

Best wishes,

Jackie

I also felt extreme anxiety on 75mcg but dropped to 50 and eventually-over a period of 3/4 months my system sorted itself. It did take time and I think the adrenal fatigue could be the problem-I only found this out on this site-doc obviously didn't know!

Still not sure how all that works but read up on internet and rested -had a lot of time out of my stressful teaching job.

I also take B complex/magnesium/starflower to name a few supps which can help.

You might be analysing the 25.50. makes of levo too much and having a panicky reaction which could be totally adrenal related.

Rest up-take it steady and try to distract your thoughts-I know it's hard but it eventually worked for me -also I had to stop the caffeine-so any stimulants need to be monitored.

Take Care.
