Constipation!!!

I can go weeks without having a poo! Does anyone else have this problem, I cannot go without taking something which then makes you unable to leave the house for a day!! Then absolutely nothing for another 2+ weeks, I never have the urge to poo without taking a drug.

Does anyone else have this problem?

:-)

Can I suggest that you may be under-medicated. Please can you post your latest thyroid test results as well as the dosage/med you are on. This will help people to better offer support.

Are you lactose intolerant do you think?

I solved this problem with a VERY high-calorie solution :-( Breakfast = bran flakes or muesli, 1tbs wheat bran, 2tbs oat bran, nuts, linseeds, banana, 3 ready-to-eat prunes, 4 ready-to-eat apricots, sometimes some dates. The omission of prunes is a no-no! It's no wonder I'm so fat ;-D

I didnt think it possible to go longer than a week, without serious problems accuring ? I have suffered with constipation since giving up smoking 7 years ago.

My doc tells me I dont drink enough, although I eat plenty of fruit & nuts ect..... you need plenty of liquid to wash it all through........Here endeth my advice X

I an far better since being better medicated however I have learnt that if I do not eat enough thus does not help !!.....look st food intolerances and try fennel tea to aid regularity I find this especially goid!

I looked first at nutrition - wholefood and fruit and vegetables, but make sure broccoli and cabbage foods are cooked to just beyond 'crunch'. Roughage and water is a good start!

But for me, there was also another issue... When becoming hypothyroid, (undiagnosed and not treated) I lost a lot of muscle tone-function. When trying to regain some muscle strength, I tried sit-ups and gave myself a back injury. My muscles had become so weak it seemed that almost anything caused injury. I used a cross trainer, starting slowly, just for a minute to begin with.

I wanted to start to tone my belly, but as the sit-ups were so dodgy, I bought myself a slendertone... I never suffer from constipation now - and I'm sure the slendertone has helped to stimulate the muscles in this area to get the colon working again!

My son 21 has PA has had constipation problems all his life, a think 12 weeks was his longest, he was in agony, at 1 point they put him on 12 movicol a day! Put it down to lazyness at constipation clinic as a child, another battle I faced. He,s currently in hospital (another fight) refusing him his folic acid vitamins & sublingual B12 only + side is a encro is going to see him while he,s in ther, nothing worse than constipation, just keep pestering doc, just read somewhere about testing stool sample for thyroid & PA problems. Hope you poo soon.

Going onto T3/T4 combination solved this problem for me. Apparently T3 is needed to stimulate the walls of the intestines to bring about peristalsis. Maybe you could find some info online and show your GP. It's horrible I know!

Never suffered with it until about 2 years ago - yet another clue for the Drs. I now have a rectocile! :(

Lisasahara using slender tone will definitely help, so will massaging your stomach area! X

I suffered with constipation on t4 as soon as I went on t3 my problem disappeared and I had always has a reasonable diet! It's horrible and always much worse before a period, I wouldn't go for about a week before.

Hope you get this sorted soon! It can't be good for our bodies...

I too was constipated - it has got better and this is usually the sign for me that things are not okay. I have a very healthy lifestyle, eat lots of high fibre and plenty of exercise but I do sometimes feel bloated.

Agree with the other comments that you are perhaps hypo.

Hope it gets sorted - best wishes

Yes I have the same problem as you I can't go without medication I found senna works for me they are a natural product but can get them on prescription so it will be free. I know it's not good having to rely on yet more tablets but for me it's better than the alternative good luck.

I have a few suggestions.

Fiber can actually cause problems, I find cereals tend to be rather blocking (added iron...) also boiled veg and too many nuts or eggs. A lot of leafy stuff can be troublesome too. Add plenty of fats to your diet, and fruit smoothies can help too. Don't eat anything dry.

Don't don't do not use ordinary laxatives. They will kill you. No joke. I have experience! Try these: milk thistle, triphala, turmeric (capsules), lemon juice w/honey, magnesium citrate, vit c. All natural things which you can rotate and thus not become dependent. Triphala is particurlarly good, safe for long-term use and has many other benefits too.

Eat more, you'd be amazed ;)

Stay hydrated - lots lots of water.

B vits have a champion laxative effect. I have also found bananas do on me but in a less desirable way.

If you take paracetamol, drink coffee/alcohol, or lose sleep this can also cause problems. And regular eating, every 2-3 hrs at least is important.

Hope this helps somebody :)
