can anyone help or any suggetions , i am really wanting to lose some weight , i've tried lots of different diets .. nothings working ..

Hi You do not say what meds you are on? Have you had your FT3 tested? If so are you on T3? most of us need it near the top of range. It is normally the problem with not being able to loose weight if it is low.

When my weight was bad no T3 then but my endo said that the diabetes diet was best, ie lots of green veg, no normal potatoes ( sweet OK ) not much fruit or protein but some wholegrained wholemeal bread. There are some very good ones..Any further look up diabetes UK orand also the USA site which is good.Actually best are the two diabetic books by Anthony Worrel Thompson. Brilliant forward in one, I wish I had met a dietician like his!

Alternate day fasting works for me, best 'diet' I've ever done. x

I have lost 4 and ahalf stone in 6 months by changing my diet to eating more fruit, more fibre, less fat but the key difference is that I started to walk. It was hard and painful at first, my thigh muscles used to scream with pain. I reduced my calorie intake to about 1500 calories per day and walked. I've learnt what a 'portion' is.

Gradually I have managed to increase my exercise to power walking for an hour a day, usually in two parts, morning and night. I really love it now.

When my weight started to even out, I realised I did not have any fat left to burn and started using electrolytes.

After that, I put chocolate into my diet as I have listened to my body and what it needs.

I eat what I need to eat.

I have researched how many calories I need now and can eat about 2250 per day.

There is no name for this diet. It is the one where calories in=calories out.

I have changed my way of thinking about my relationship with food, what I am putting in my body and what I want to get out of my body. I have been the same weight for five months now.

It has worked for me.

Hi, I failed miserably at diets that i'd attempted but not consistently. I'm also not good at following other peoples plans because i like doing things my way. However, having reached nearly 13 stone (i'm 5ft 4) and i look my best at 9.5 stone, i decided to research internet to find out what to do as i was thinking of joining a diet club of some sort. Then i found 'my fitness app' which i put on my smart phone and then started to enter everything i eat. What was useful was that i'd put in the name of the supermarket and the dish, and the app knew the amount of calories and the carbs/protein etc., so it worked it all out for me (including home cooked meals). I got to see my charts of how i was progressing and for the first time it put me in control of myself and my actions. I've lost 1.5 stone so far, but stopped using it a week before christmas and have weighed myself this morning and have put on 5 pounds whilst i ate roast potatoes and 3 mince pies a day along with lots of chocolate and Dundee cake as well as Christmas pudding. Half board on holiday for a week also didn't help! I'm going back to the app now, which is essentially, me taking responsibility for my actions (it records my own fitness regime too so i'm going to start that in January) and watch as being responsible shows the profit by the graphs showing my progress. I know before i started being honest with myself on the app, i used to cheat myself every day by sneaking foods in that i shouldn't have. I may have put on the weight due to underactive Thyroid, but i know that i comfort ate and used my condition as an excuse. Hope this helps.

If you post your latest blood test results together with the ranges for someone to comment. It may be that you are not on enough meds to increase your metabolism. It is better to have a low TSH instead of being 'within normal range'.

Paleolithic diet (Paleo), healthiest thing around. This is the way we are designed to eat. It takes a bit of planning and it's not cheap, as you'll be eating the good stuff, but I guarantee you'll feel and look great in time. The best books are "The Paleo Diet" (Loren Cordain) and "The Paleo Solution: The original human diet" (Robb Wolf) but you can get enough information for free by googling. Once you get used to eating this way, bad foods will actually repulse you. Good luck. Alan.

I'm all over the place with my eating too,am totally craving sugar,went nuts after loosing 3.5 stone with slimming world,apparently that can be quite normal but I'm so disappointed that I've put over a stone back on. But it's my own fault. I was very very down while doing slimming world,total opposite of what everyone thought I should be. The low fat diet had a very bad affect on my mental health. I've seen a nutritionist but she mucked me up even more. I've looked into the paleo diet but it doesn't appeal. Doesn't help with the meds I'm on for fibro some of them are known for increasing the appetite. I was thinking of going back to slimming world next week just so I can get some sort of control back but the thought of going through depression again really puts me off. I think I need to vastly reduce the chocolate I'm eating but it's like a damn drug to me.

@Teddysmum43. If you're craving sugar it's possible that candida in the gut could be causing that. The paleo diet can be modified to suit you. It's more a case of "foods you should avoid" rather than foods that you "must" eat. Good luck :)

I have lost about 2 and a half stone in the last 4 months. This has been a combination of increasing my thyroxine and following the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. Primal Blueprint is like Paleo, but not as strict, you can have some dairy and the occasional glass of wine. I have found that following this plan has gotten rid of my sugar cravings and my appetite is much smaller. I actually forget to eat sometimes, which is extremely unusual for me! You can read all about it on marksdailyapple.com. You can get all the info there you need to get started for free. I have found that there have been other benefits to this way of eating too. My digestion and acne have both improved a lot, so losing weight isn't the only reason to try it. As others have said, you should also make sure your medication is right, because if it isn't then you are really at a disadvantage when you are trying to lose weight.

I have had weight loss hypnosis and its started to work. I eat less and have lost a few pounds
