underactive thyroid

I have an underactive thyroid and am on levothyroxine. The last few test results revealed my thyroid as being slightly overactive and the GP has said I can either stay on the current dose or go lower. What would be best?

Hello Lupret,

How do you feel on your current dose? If you are feeling good then I would not change anything and if your GP isn't too concerned then that would put my mind at ease at staying on the current dose.

Go on how you feel, are the symptoms of being hypo gone or lessened?

hope that helps :o)

Rather agree with Tracey.

But if you do decide to reduce, remember that you don't have to adjust by 25mcg per day. (That is the pretty huge change of 175mcg a week!) You can use a pattern like 3 days on 125 and 4 days on 150, or just reduce by 25 once a week. Or you can split tablets so that you can adjust by as low as 12.5 mcg at a time.

All the best

Rod
