I often forget to take my medication until after lunch. I'm not sure whether this makes much difference or not. Does this matter?

You should take your levothyroxine first thing in the morning with water on an empty stomach - so don't eat for at least 30 minutes!
Some people find taking it at bedtime is good for them as they haven't eaten for more than an hour. However, don't take your T3 at bedtime or you may not be able to sleep!
There is no evidence regarding the best time to take natural desiccated thyroid e.g. Armour.
Updated on Jun 14 2010 10:29AM: Food stops absorption of levothyroxine by up to 40%.
If you put your tablets and water on your bedside cabinet then as soon as you wake up you can take it. Many people find that taking it around the same time each morning helps too.
I take my Levothyroxine tablets at 4am every morning without fail with water, then go back to sleep & have breakfast at 7am!
I take mine first thing although I don't always have a drink with it. I can't drink plain water so always have Robinsons or something. I didn't know you weren't supposed to eat afterwards. I sometimes have a nutrigrain bar although I guess once I've got up, showered and dressed and got to the shops that's normally a good half an hour or so.
What's the reason for the water and for not eating afterwards?
I take mine at bedtime, I stick them under my tongue and let them dissolve. I have no problems sleeping and feel more ready to get up and go in the morning!
I work nights so i wondered what would be best for me?
