Are there any options outside conventional medicine that are recommended for hypothyroidism?

Not that I'm aware of. I have heard and indeed used complementary medicine along side conventional medicine to help my recovery, for the short term.

Levothyroxine is the "gold standard" treatment for hypothyroidism and this is therefore the conventional treatment. However, there are other treatments that some patients do better on, such as T3 (liothyronine) and natural desiccated thyroid i.e. Armour, NatureThroid and Erfa.

There are also glandulars which is processed bovine glands with the hormones taken out. Some people find these help if they have a sluggish thyroid and are not on treatment.
