4weeks on...

Well it's been 4 weeks since I started on the levothyroxine, I'm now taking 3 tablets a day for the next 2 weeks, then I move onto 4 tablets. Although iv not felt any change during the day. Iv had some eventful nights were I will wake up during the night, my body and joints will be aching, my throat will be so sore, and il be sweating, then about 20 mins or so later I'm there still awake and still not able to get back to sleep.

This is what happened last night but for 4 and half hours.

Iv not felt any signs yet of feeling the slightest bit better, infact with the sleepless nights now I'm feeling worse.

Hi Jewels

I'm so sorry to hear you've been suffering so much.

My advice to you would be to go back to your doctor as soon as possible and demand another thyroid test to see where your thyroid levels are at. From what you've said, it doesn't sound like they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. I would also recommend that you ask your doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist because doctors just don't have enough expertise and knowledge on thyroid conditions. I would especially say this is important for you as you say your condition is the worst your doctor has seen. Do you know if they tested your free T4? To get the most accurate thyroid reading, you need your free T3, free T4 and TSH tested. My doctor told me that the NHS don't test T3, so you may have to pay to get the tests done at Lab 21 if nobody is willing to test you for this. Can you ask for a copy of your results and post them on here? It would be very useful and enable others to give you accurate advice (and very good to track your own progress instead of being in the dark as we are often left)!

It may be that as someone else said, you may be better on natural thyroid which also has T3 as well as T4. Please note however that Armour Thyroid reformulated their binders and fillers and a lot of people (including myself) became very ill on it, so if you are prescribed it and feel worse, this could be the reason. There are other alternatives however such as Naturethroid or Erfa.

Do keep us updated on your progress and good luck at the doctors.

Charlie.

I have been on a very small dose of levothyroxine for 3 weeks and have had a few teething problems but they seem to be settling down. Did have the sore throat for a few days and sore boobs. Today I have a headache but think this is unrelated as I feel under the weather. Have noticed changes for the better - a little more energy and some good nights. My body temperature is is up to the normal level and I am enjoying cosy feet. i have a blood test next week to check how I am getting on and I must say I have had a good experience at my doctors. He diagnosed a borderline thyroid a few years ago but as I was not complaining about symptoms just kept checking. I put my symptoms down to my age (60) but this time I reported the symptoms and he immediately started me on the lowest dose. Think I have been lucky with my doctor who is a male and also 60 years old. He did offer to send me to an endo but I decided not to for the time being. Hope you begin to feel a bit better, I was warned it could take 6 weeks before i would see any improvement so hang on in there. Most of my symptoms are not things I would have gone to the doctor with - yellow eyelids/vitiligo on one arm/coarse black hairs on chin/acne/cold feet/no underarm hair/brittle nails/small weight gain. All of these things could be attributed to my age and more a cosmetic problem. Seems to me that we do not all get the same symptoms which probably makes it more difficult to diagnose. Still having an afternoon nap

Hi there, when you say 3 tablets, then 4 tablets are they 50mcgs each? or 25mcg?

If you have been taking levothyroxine for 4 weeks it is very early days. It can take several months to get your levels right. Are you having repeat blood tests every 6 weeks?

When are you taking your tablets? What usually happens is that you increase by 25mcgs every 6 weeks, you can feel worse if you increase too quickly.

Let us know how much you are taking, maybe you are taking too much too soon, we are all very different, it took me 14 months to slowly increase to my level.
