Propronalol and levothyroxine

Ive only just found out about contraindication of Propranolol and Levothyroxine. Does anybody know what dose and for how long it would need to affect conversion. I took 10mg Propronalol as and when about 3 times a week for a month then advised to take 10mg 2x day which I did for a month. It was prescribed it for anxiety but it made my anxiety worse and caused insomnia so GP said to stop taking it so I reduced over 2 weeks. I have central hypothyroidism latest labs are FT4 22.5 (range 12 to 22) FT 3 3.8 (range 3.1 to 6.8).

Was test AFTER being on propranolol or before starting it?

High Ft4 will be likely cause of “anxiety” type symptoms

Low Ft3 will result in low vitamin levels, poor conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) and therefore still loads of hypo symptoms

What vitamin supplements are you taking

What are most recent vitamin results

Propranolol lowers magnesium levels as well

I had the rests done a couple of weeks after stopping propronalol. I've already posted and covered vits etc and got so.e useful info from this site. Only Ferritin low at 38. I'm acting on the info received. Sorry don't mean to sound ungrateful for your help 🙂 It's more info on whether the dose and length of time on propropranol could have had an effect on converting. I'm pulling as much info as possible for when I see my GP as they aren't very clued up on central hypothyroid at all.

Ideally you would have waited 6-8 weeks before retesting after stopping

Retest after working on improving low vitamin levels in another 6-8 weeks

I have a host of chronic diseases, with Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s, and tend to note drugs that are problematic with various ailments, or varied meds. In the last 5 years I have had Long Covid with high BP/Hr and put on 5 antihypertensives simultaneously including a beta blocker. I had noted ‘propranolol reduces T3 serum by 20-30%’, bisoprolol not so. I’m not sure where I got this information from but nearby recorded ‘Gazvi p1792-3’, the author rings a bell but I can’t find a link…perhaps someone else will recognise it?
