Hypo for 10+ years still struggling with symptoms. Looking to source T3 meds. Any help greatly appreciated.

UK - I have suffered from under active thyroid now since I was 12 (now 25) I suffered for several years before betting diagnosed and have since been on 150mcg levothyroxine. I’ve never managed to shake the hypo symptoms despite my levels being under control. I still suffer from low / changing mood. Very brittle straw like hair , constant fatigue , the list goes on. My levels of T3 are on the lower side however my GP refuses to offer any T3 meds saying this isn’t an option in the uk. I’m desperate at this point to try some T3 medicine and see if it helps me feel better. After this king feeling tired I don’t even know what it is to feel good anymore. I would really appreciate if anyone had any sources they could recommend? Many thanks in advance.

We have had reports of suppliers previously fulfilling orders becoming unreliable.

Welcome to the forum Fedupthyroid04, I recommend you start a new post telling us more about your ‘thyroid journey’ so far, plus any recent blood test results. This will allow you to ask further questions (not involving the procurement of non- prescription medications)

My levels of T3 are on the lower side however my GP refuses to offer any T3 meds saying this isn’t an option in the uk.

That’s totally incorrect

There were over 67,000 prescriptions on NHS in England last year for liothyronine. See here

openprescribing.net/analyse...

However to get T3 prescribed on NHS initially you have to get it via NHS endocrinologist on hospital prescription for 3-6 months trial BEFORE GP can prescribe

Probably at least as many private prescriptions written per year

BEFORE considering adding T3 you need to get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine at each prescription

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking

What vitamin supplements are you taking

Also VERY important to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

What is reason for your hypothyroidism

Autoimmune?

Assuming it’s autoimmune, ard you on gluten free diet, if not, get coeliac blood test BEFORE trialing gluten free

ALWAYS test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Medichecks and BH also offer private blood draw at clinic near you, or private nurse to your own home…..for an extra fee

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Tips on how to do DIY finger prick test

support.medichecks.com/hc/e...

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In days before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
