Hello lovely people,
I had the second half of my thyroid removed two years ago because of neck compression and problem with swallowing . Two scans have shown some tissue leftover and I was told , first by an enforcement in Poland, then by a radiologist in this country that it was a small amount of thyroid leftover that just needs to be monitored. However my surgeon maintains that it is not a thyroid by but surgical tissue used to stop bleeding and that it should dissolve. Well the leftover is not that small 20 mm by 17 mm by 6 mm and to my thinking , if it has not dissolved in the few weeks after surgery it is unlikely to dissolve now, after two years. I am having to put up with discomfort in my neck and chronic cough caused by that tissue. I also get mild flu- like symptoms , which I think may be related to having this foreign body . My surgeon does not want to operate again due to the risk involved with opening me up for the third time, and referred me to his colleague for a second opinion . From what I have read , surgeons should be removing this tissue but often leave it in. I am in two minds as what to do; should I insist on having another surgery , or continue to put up with symptoms. Low level of inflammation if persistent can’t be good . If someone knows of similar case,, I would be grateful for advice.
