Best to leave a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the blood draw. That way you know what your normal level of circulating hormone is. Take levo too close to the blood draw and all you will be testing is the dose you just took.

This is one of the things I don’t understand properly. If my reading is under 1 after testing according to normal protocols and that is my more or less accurate hormonal level at its highest, why am I taking levo? Apologies, I continue stupid!

Your blood tests are “normal “ because you are taking replacement thyroid hormones

I said I was stupid!

So, it’s because of the regular, longer term effect of taking LT . OK.

Seems dropping it for 24 hrs pre-test is just a snapshot and a slightly blurry one at that?

Correct

TSH changes through the day and is highest early morning…….and lowest after lunch

Ft4 measures the amount of Levo in your blood. So testing 24 hours after last dose is measuring the lowest level

Ft3 measures how well you convert Ft4 into Ft3

Ideally aiming for both Ft4 and Ft3 at similar levels….most people on replacement thyroid hormones seem to need Ft4 and Ft3 at least 50-60% through range

For good conversion of Ft4 to Ft3 we need GOOD vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin levels

All blood tests just give a blurry snapshot. None of them should be taken too seriously. Their just a rough guide to levels, nut they're the only means we've got. Have a look at thid article:

Thanks. Very informative and definitely highlights thé complexity of the condition!! I liked the term ‘surrogate endpoint’ in the Biochemical Bigotry article.
