Lio and FT3 tests

Hi, I started lio 6 weeks ago - 10mcg a day in split doses, 8ish a.m then 6pm. I've also been taking levo the paat few years (currently 100mcg).

I'm having my thyroid bloods done Monday 8.45am. Pretty sure I read its 8 to 12 hours to leave lio before FT3 testing, so if I take my 2nd dose Sunday at 6pm that'll be over the 12 hours before Monday test. Does this matter at all please?

Sorry if a daft question, I may be overthinking this! Thankyou !

That must over 12 hours? Yes, it probably does. I could give you a false FT3. False by how much, impossible to say. Depends how accurate you want the results to be.

But if it's just for your doctor, he probably wouldn't know the difference anyway! So, if you really can't delay taking your dose for three hours, then you'll just going to have to bear in mind that your FT3 would have been slightly higher if you'd only left 12 hours.

Ah thanks Greygoose, I didn't realise it could create false FT3 by not delaying! It's a private test - my doctor is useless so I'm doing this myself - so yes I do need it to be accurate.

So I could take lio 9pm tonight then for accuracy have I understood that properly please? I hope I won't be too wired lol! Lio is more complicated than I realised, thankyou for your help :)

Taking it at 9 pm should be ok, yes. I've never found that T3 made me wired whatever time I took it - I used to take a huge dose just before bed and slept like a log. But, we're all different. :)

Thanks very much! I felt quite wired when I first started taking it but actually now I find it knocks me out abit like I have to sleep instantly...I think I must have assumed it makes people wired all the time, rather than just for some people starting it. If I'm making sense? I'm also not sleeping quite enough for other reasons so my body is probably craving it. I suspect I'll need more than the 10mcg so want the tests to be really accurate. So yes maybe it'll be easier taking it later all round! Thanks so much for clarifying, I'm still very brain fogged! 😊

Sorry just to check, could I also just not have my 2nd lio dose today at all ahead of tests tomorrow please? Thankyou

That would make the gap between your last dose of T3 and the blood draw too FT3. I don't understand why you would do that.

The whole idea is to find out what your normally circulating level of T3. Too wide a gab gives you a false low FT3. Too short a gap will give you a false high FT3. Neither result would be good to dose with. Or am I missing something?

Ah thankyou no it's me I misunderstood I'm sorry. I didn't realise that too long a gap would give a false low, I'm sorry if I didn't take that in and made you repeat yourself or anything! I've just taken my T3 just before 9pm....thankyou so much for your time and patience with this stupidly foggy person! 🙏

I’ve been taking T3 for 3 years now (5mcg daily split into two doses as larger doses gave me palpitations) . Plus 100mcg T4 daily which I take at least half hour before eating.

At one time with the other pills I take I had an alarm with 5 settings! Now I take my T4 with a blood thinner in the morning, the 2.5 T3 when I get up and the rest in the evening about 7 or 8 with the rest of the T3.

I hate to be a slave to precise timings so have a 2 hour window (ish) within which to take morning and evening pills and then morning dose of T3 after breakfast.

So I think the 12 hour gap will be absolutely fine but maybe take your evening dose 2-3 hours later then adjust next morning’s dose a little later etc until you’re readjusted back to your regular times. All the best!

Sorry I only just saw your reply! Thanks very much for your message, I actually took my lio about 8.45 pm so was 12 hours before my blood draw the next day. I hope that's ok? My blood results however are abit worrying so I will now need to post about that! Never ending isn't it? Thanks very much again
