Actually no mention of thyroid but my goodness we all need to hear this to deal holistically with our situation.... one shocking figure being women put on statins raise there risk of diabetes by 71%!! greygoose you will love her bit on cholesterol!
Thanks Tigger, that's my treadmill listening sorted. I'd class myself high risk for all 3, cardiovascular, osteoporosis and dementia with my family history and my memory issues getting worse. I'm doing what I can to hopefully slow down what will be the inevitable. I'm on hrt and testosterone for life!
I've got a dexa scan next Thursday which not looking forward to results. Just had my sex hormones blood done privately as gp refused even though my oestradiol has been dropping.
I used the tasso device from randox, not sure I'm a fan. If you have cold arms and likely mucin as can't grab my skin, then it's difficult collecting enough blood. I expected test would be void as couldn't fill tube but I got results. It's questionable about oestradiol as now its over 700 and I'm post menopause. Fat chance gp will retest.
Oh, no! It's a video! I don't do videos. I hate videos! I like to read information not watch some mumbling Elizabeth-Taylor wanabee. My hearing just isn't up to it. And sub-titles are always inadequate.
And how can you 'discuss hormones' without mentioning thyroid? Un/under-treated hypo is one of the main causes of heart attacks according to Dr Broda Barnes. I don't understand how they can just ignore the thyroid like that.
I very much agree. Most videos are intensely annoying. However, this is a podcast, so audio only. Still got the issues of being able to hear! (I have not listened - yet.)
If you can listen on an Apple device, the Apple Podcasts app has a very effective automatic transcribing feature - which means, if you wish, you can read it. I find it invaluable for words I don't know - names, foreign language, or just badly pronounced.
That feature alone makes me choose Apple Podcasts over other possible audio/podcast options. It is absolutely a hundred leagues better than, for example, the YouTube transcriptions.
Yep, this is one of those occasions I wish I had a bigger phone screen, the fact that you can copy it would suggest it wouldn't be hard for Liz Earle to add it to her website?
Just a radio show GG.... I hate video's generally too!
This is assuming thyroid is OK for a change and the high risk of heart disease in post menopausal women which is more likely to be our demise being the No1 killer worldwide!
It's a bit of a starchy version as it was for British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine Conference
The podcast is more of a conversation the bit that made me think of you...
In a Western American accent
“And cholesterol, you know, everybody is like, get rid of cholesterol, get rid of cholesterol. Cholesterol is essential for life. Cholesterol forms cell membranes in the brain and all the steroid hormones.
So we want to have cholesterol. We don't want more than we need, but what causes people to die from having high cholesterol isn't the cholesterol, it's the oxidation or rancidity of cholesterol. And so this gets to the other thing.
When you make too much cholesterol, why is that even happening? Well, it turns out that estradiol regulates the liver production of cholesterol. So virtually every woman who goes through menopause is going to have elevation in her production of cholesterol.”
Loved it, thanks. Nice not to have something dumbed down for a change. Think i need to read the transcript a bit more slowly again though as I listened first and harder to concentrate that way.
Loved the comment about getting doctors to change their minds ( impossible) and that just because menopause is natural does not mean it should not be fixed (like a cataract or artidicial knee) and needs to be at reasonable level and life long
Haven’t listened yet - but yes, the idea of doctors changing their mind… ha!!!! Still makes me feel let down and angry at how the medical establishment fails us even on the basics.
She says something very similar.... change needs to comes from the bottom up rather than the top down, angry women need to take a stand and demand estradiol not statins and BP tablets
