Hypothyroid and babies

Hi everyone

I have hashimotos and hypothyroid managed by ndt (thyroid s). I have a 2 month old baby and I'm wondering about how my thyroid issues could potentially affect her chances of having problems. I'm also a little concerned as she's now constantly sleeping or tired which is normal for a baby I know, but not for her. She is usually awake for quite long periods of time. It's like she can't keep her eyes open and at the moment she's not even getting through a feed before falling back to sleep.

So I'm wondering. What symptoms are there to look out for in babies with thyroid issues? And what is to be done if thyroid issues are suspected?

Many thanks

I would be asking your GP but if it helps all babies born in the UK have a blood test and thyroid is always on it

Would this be the heel prick blood test? If so, il have to dig out the results because I can't recall seeing it on there. But isn't there a chance that her bloods could have changed in 2 months 🤔

Yes the heel prick test. I would talk to your GP if you are worried about your little one.

The answer is yes it could affect her. I was adopted and never knew any of my birth family until my fifties. Nearly all of them have thyroids either removed or problems.

It wasn't until my sixties that I had problems and my thyroid had to be removed.

You should get your baby checked out right away. I hope that everything will be alright.

Good Luck.
