Switching from NDT to Levothyroxine

Hi could anybody help i take two and a half grains of NDT with 50mcg Levothyroxine added i cannot really justify the price of Armour when there seems to be no difference so i have asked my consultant to switch back to Levothyroxine 125mcg with 10mcg t3 as i was 7 months ago. My question is does this mean i will be getting less t3 as i understand NDT has a higher amount of t3? Also the transition from Levothyroxine to NDT was fairly smooth is this the case the other way around i assume it would be but not sure .

NDT usually contains about 38 mcg T4 and 9 mcg T3 per grain.

So, 2.5 grains would give you about 95 mcg T4 and 22.5 mcg T3.

So, if you went onto 125 mcg levo you would be getting an increase in dose, but on only 10 mcg T3 you would be cutting your dose by more than half. Which doesn't sound like a very good idea to me. Doubtful the extra levo would be able to make up the difference.

However, I wouldn't like to say anything for certain without seeing full thyroid bloods on 2.5 grains of NDT. It could be that the reason you don't feel any better is that your FT3 is a bit too high.
