Honestly no idea, which is why I asked. Have a dexa scan next month, which my Endo has arranged. Also never took HRT during menopause. Thyroid monitored regularly as on T3/T4 and under endocrinologist
Dr Toft (prior to retiring) wrote to my GP to advise my dosage to be taken, to ensure optimum health etc but my TSH is really low, which does concern my new eddo. Although he is happy to be guided by how I feel, my T3 and T4 levels remain middle of the range, just TSH 0.02
The TSH has nothing to do with bones - or hearts, come to that, or anything else that isn't directly related to the thyroid - i.e. stimulating the thyroid to make more hormone and convert T4 to T3.
But, I was asking if you'd had a 'fragility break' and been told it's due to taking thyroid hormone replacement.
No my Endo just advised as ankle broke from floor standing height, so termed fragility break, and he wanted the dexa scan. He referenced all the meds and no HRT
Well, pretty sure your broken ankle had nothing to do with your levo. Your bones are probably fragile due to being hypo. Good bones need good levels of thyroid hormones.
I've had a low impact fracture but I don't believe it was to do with taking thyroid replacement but due to very long term vitamin D deficiency (and it's impact on my bones)
Thank you for the response, I tripped over the cable of my floor standing fan and broke my ankle lol, sure just an unlucky fall but will see what the bone density scan shows
Earlier this year my Son also broke his ankle, but it was not to do with taking Thyroid medication. He said he just overbalanced. He also has an ear problem, that is being ignored by NHS, so the breakage was probably to do with this problem.
