Blood test results...for iron panel any help much appreciated
no ferritin result?
Hi Sorry to be a pain...do you think I should do a ferritin test? not sure why it wasn't done on the last tests as the doctor did request it. Looking at the results above should I take an iron supplement short term to get it a bit better? My last blood tests on 8th Nov showed low mcv & high rbc so wandering if theres an underlying issue with those. Many thanks for all suggestions & help....
You have room to take an iron supplement
Retest after 6-8 weeks
Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test
If taking any iron supplements stop 5-7 days before testing
Medichecks iron panel test

Thank you...I have the three arrows heme which came the other day so might start with one of these a day & see how I get on & re test in 6-8 weeks, many thanks for your help again...much appreciated.
Hi...I've just posted about my son, he's nearly 31 & has today just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid his tsh levels were 130. The doctor wants him to start on 75mg levothyroxine does that sound OK? He doesn't know anything about the thyroid & is just going by what the doctor has said (he was put on another med which he couldn't tolerate to start with) 4 days ago & he's going in later today for more bloods to check for the tpo antibodies etc he said. I've suggested he looks on here for info & help but just wanted to initially see if the dose of 75mg for him to start sounds OK? I've mentioned checking other levels for him like vitamins etc so he will look into that. Thanks for your help...
Good he’s been diagnosed
People with very high TSH often recover very well, though it will probably take at least 6 months to start to feel more normal
Standard starter dose levothyroxine is 50mcg, obviously he’s extremely hypo so it makes sense to prescribe higher dose initially
See how he gets on
Explain it’s important to take levothyroxine EVERY DAY, ideally at similar time per day and on empty stomach, and nothing except water for at least an hour after
Retest 2-3 months after each dose change
He will need further increases over coming months
Make sure he does all thyroid tests early morning, and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
