Hi, hoping some more experienced members might be able to advise. I take 112.55mcg of levothyroxine through the night, between 2.00 - 4.00am. I take 5mcg of T3 at the same time. I take the remainder (10mcg) of T3 in the early afternoon. Splitting the dose was to try and avoid afternoon slump / crash in energy. I still get them so this approach isn’t that effective.
I’m wanting to take all levo and T3 together through the night. This is to ensure it’s all away from food and other supplements.
Can I just make the change? Are there any downsides or things to consider before doing this?
many thanks 🙂

The idea of splitting the t3 dose to alleviate the afternoon slump is based on the assumption that T3 'runs out'. It doesn't.
The half-life of T3 in the blood is about 24 hours. That means that if you took 10 mcg this morning, by tomorrow morning you will have 5 mcg left, minus what got into the cells. And what gets into the cells stays there for about 7 days. So, if you are taking the same dose every day, there will always be T3 in your blood and in your cells. The afternoon slum could just be that you are not taking enough T3 in total - or due to many, many other things.
Some people need to take split their dose of T3 because they find the sudden rise in FT3 levels too much for them. Splitting the dose makes that 'high' more manageable for them.
Other people need to take all their dose at the same time to flood the receptors and make sure some T3 gets into the cells.
We're all different and have different needs. And we have to experiment to find out what suits us best.
If it were me, I'd just change over from one day to the next. But I'm a cold-turkey sort of person. Others prefer to make changes slowly by gradually reducing one dose and increasing the other. Do what you feel is best for you. There is no one right way to do anything when it comes to thyroid dosing.
Do you sleep ok after taking levo at 2 am? I take mine (125mcg)at around 6 am, then I do go back to sleep for an hour or so. I then take my 5mcg T3 at about 2 pm, and am fine. I take 2mg Lisinopril for BP and my Blood pressure is around 112/58 with a pulse of 53, at which I feel fine. It's a matter of allowing your body to get used to a routine befre changing things around.
That afternoon low is so debilitating. I changed to taking my Thybon 20 Henning in a morning single dose a few months ago. I, too, was having a very low dip at 2pm and read here about taking a simgle dose.I made the change and the 2pm low energy dips have gone. I also lost between 2-3 kg without doing anything and have been stable at my ideal weight since then without any effort - a most welcome change.
I take my 125 levo and Thybon together in the morning around 6am then go back to sleep. My body seems to have adjusted to this schedule.
