Timing of Armour for upcoming blood test

Hello! I take my Armour thyroid at night: 180 mg every other night and 135 mg on the other nights.

I've got a blood test first thing Wednesday morning. Should I just skip the Tuesday night dose, or do you recommend something else? Tuesday would be a 135 mg dose for me.

Thanks!

Alternate dosing with NDT is not recommended due to the T3. If T3 is going to do what it's supposed to do, you need to take the same dose every single day. And such a huge difference in dose is not likely to be helpful, anyway.

Due to the T3 in NDT, skipping a whole dose before a blood test would make a gap of over 24 hours. The best way to do it is leaving a gap of 8 to 12 hours. Leaving such a huge gap would mean you have both a false low T4 and a false low T3. So, best to split the dose the day before the blood draw and make sure that your last dose is the right amount of time away from the blood draw. :)

Ok, thanks for the information! I will split up my dosage into two units on the day before the test.

When I was taking 180mg every day, it was somewhat too high for me, but the next dosage down, 120 mg, is far too low. Since my insurance will only cover 1 pill per day, I get the 180s. On alternate days I split them in half, and in half again to get the 135mg.

I think I've been alternating like this for about 2 years! I'm going to do what you say and try to take 7/8 of the 180mg daily. It makes sense to me to keep the T3 level more steady.

I was very glad that a couple years back they switched the pills to make it possible to cut them, as they used to just crumble. Now I can just split them my hands without the pill cutter.

Have a nice evening!

make sure you include testing vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin too

It wouldn't make much of a difference on your blood results if any as your dosage takes about a week (estimated)to come out your system
