Hi everybody. I used regain years ago before I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid, I must have been loosing my hair due to my thyroid. The side effects were awful, I would wake up with heart palpitations in the middle of the night. I'm just wondering now that my thyroid is functioning better with thyroxine would regain be ok to use now. Regain worked really well on me. My hair stopped falling and my crown area filled up after 3 months. Anyone out there using regain, please share.

have you tested your folate and ferritin?

My son used regain but it only gave him temporary fluff. He uses a rosemary product now from Weleda, does the same without the nasty side effects.

I think I found the one, tried to upload a photo, but now allowing on this site...Weleda Revitalising Hair Tonic, you can get on-line and also in Holland & Barrett., The comments about the product are VERY positive. I shall purchase tomorrow....can't wait!

I may just have a look too as my hair has started falling out at an alarming rate and it was never very thick to begin with… (no medical reason, just stress and a deteriorating hip that’s waiting on an 18-month list to be replaced…)

Oh dear that doesn't sound good, stress does terrible things! I am going to buy for my fiancé who has VERY thinning hair. That said I am going to slap some on morning and evening on my bonce, as my hair isn't as thick as it once was, and appears to be falling out (age thing probably). Looking forward to giving it a go.

In clinical tests both peppermint oil and rosemary oil performed as well as Regaine but were cheaper and didnt cause side effects.

Interesting fact Regaine or Minoxidil as the medicine it contains is called was originally a blood pressure drug, however scientists noticed an interesting side effect of increased hair growth and men who had been balding started regrowing hair.

So the boffins decided to turn it into a topical solution that could be applied directly to the scalp, as this is safer than a pill and voila you have Regaine.

Anyone considering using rosemary or peppermint oil, please make sure you dilute it with a carrier oil in the quantities advised, or buy a ready made product. Essential oils are very concentrated and can cause serious skin reactions if used neat.

Another good product that gets rave reviews is Mielle Rosemary and Mint Scalp And Hair Strengthening Oil. Available online or at Boots, Superdrug.
