Hi all, I posted last week that I’d finally been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and prescribed 75mcg starting dose. As advised I chopped my tablet up to take 50mcg and WOW is all I can say today. I don’t know if it’s psychosomatic or what but I feel so much better. My hands are warm, my knees feel like my actual age (53) instead of 93. I feel calmer and can think straight. Ive even felt a slight improvement with my carpal tunnel symptoms. I’ve been fine with the meds and thinking of moving to my prescribed dose instead of cutting the tablets up? Will I have the predicted drop in feeling well that I’ve read about or will I keep my new found vigour?

Hopefully if you add in the rest of your dose now your body has had chance to get used to this change and things will keep moving in the right direction but don't be too surprised if you have some off days as finding your sweet spot and correct dose often needs a bit of trial and error... optimising folate, Vit D, B12 and ferritin also all play a part as well as all the usual things like getting enough sleep and not overdoing it with your new found energy 🤗

6 months ago your B12 was horribly low, Vit D also needed a boost

I also take 3000 Vitamin D and vitamin B complex later in the day. Just surprised how quickly I feel so much better? 😁

Just a point about taking vitamin D....

We are advised to take vitamin K in conjunction with vit D. Many supplements combine the two

One of vitamin D’s primary functions is to promote calcium absorption and maintain adequate calcium levels in your blood which I'm sure you know.

However, vitamin D does not fully control where the calcium in your body ends up. That’s where vitamin K steps in.

Vitamin K directs calcium to the hard tissues/ bones and teeth, where it has a positive effect, and away from soft tissues/arteries, kidneys, preventing a problematic accumulation of calcium.

Glad you are feeling much better

That is a promising start but...

75mcg is a large starting dose...usually 50mcg.

I would stay on 50mcg for 6 weeks ( usual protocol) before increasing to 75mcg your prescribed dose.

Test again after 6 weeks on a constant dose of 75mcg....the results will then indicate your ongoing dose...increase or not.

It takes time (6/8 weeks) for the hormone to settle in the system and increasing too quickly may make you feel overmedicated

This initial boost may or may not last.....possibly not, so don't be surprised if symptoms rise again. That's a signal that you need more hormone

However there is no quick fix for hypothyroidism it has to be a long, slow progression to allow the body to adjust to each increase....it also avoids missing the sweet spot and overmedication

Be patient... and good luck
