am I now over medicated?

I have increased my Levo to 50 mcg and 5 mcg T3. It has been 8 days now. I have stabbing pains all over my body, my palms are burning hot, I am hot and itchy forearms. Feel awful. My joints in knees, ankles and wrists are stiff especially my thumbs. Endo is on leave for 3 weeks. Am I now over medicated?

I sincerely doubt you could be over-medicated on such a tiny dose.

Were these your blood test results before you increased:

Tsh 2.61

Free T3 3.8

Free T4 14.7

With a TSH that high it would probably take more than an increase of 25 mcg levo to take it down to a level that would suggest over-medication. Pity you don't have the ranges because the FT3 looks really low, and you would need an increase in T3 to bring that up. You're only over-medicated if the FT3 is over-range.

And your symptoms don't sound like over-medicated symptoms, sounds more like you've got some sort off bug.

Yes they were the last bloods I had before increase. Endo did not send me full blood test results with range unfortunately. My right foot started buzzing a week ago and now developed into full pains all over my body. I am so regretting having TT surgery, 5 months now and I don’t feel any better just worse. No GP appointments available until August

Well, as I said on your last post, you needed that TT. How long would you have survived without it? And the problem is not the op itself, but the lack of knowledge of the doctors treating you afterwards. You should have been started on 50 mcg, not 25. And then increased to 75 six weeks later.

And your nutrients should have been tested: vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin, and any deficiencies treated. But you could get those done now, privately, without the sayso of a doctor. Have a look on the Thyroid UK website and you will find a list of companies that do private testing.

Have you looked into the possibility of low stomach acid that humanbean talked about in your last post? Have you watched the video?

It's obvious that you cannot 100% rely on any doctor to make you well, and you're going to have to learn about your condition and take charge of your own health - as most of us do on here. The majority of doctors are just useless when it comes to thyroid. They haven't a clue! Lord knows I've seen enough of them in my time, and only ever found one that knew more about it than me! I realised very early on that I was on my own with this one and I had to take charge. And the first step is always getting a print-out of blood test results every time you have one. It is your legal right to have it. Doctors don't like it and pull stunts like not putting the ranges, to throw you off, but you should insist.

Right now, what you probably need is a cup of tea, some Ibuprofen and a day in bed. But get the nutrient testing done as soon as possible because low nutrients can cause horrible symptoms - especially B12.

Be kind to yourself. What's done is done and there's no point in regretting the past. What's important is how we attack the future! )

Yes i watched the video and tried digestive enzymes but then had severe heartburn all night. I am going to get all my bloods taken end of the week. I’m just feeling sorry for myself at the mo. Thank you for your reply

Well there are other solutions to low stomach acid than digestive enzymes. What you need to do is raise the stomach acid level;

Feeling sorry for oneself is an understandable and normal reaction. I've done quite a bit of that over the past month! :)

please contact your on call doctor. It seems your dose needs adjusting.

I was also on 50 mcg levo & 5 mg T3 here in USA, my endo took me off T 3 . I was having palpitations & itchy skin.

Some people like brand Synthroid better than generic levothyroxine.

I am on 50 mcg of synthroud now. It’s cheaper to have generic here in USA.

Best wishes

Thank you Suzi for your reply. Unfortunately, it takes weeks to see a Dr here and my Endocrinologist is away on holiday. He wants me to stay on the same dose for 6 weeks then test again. Interesting you are on synthesis, I really don’t know much about it. I will google it
