Fully recognising that this is not really related to thyroid, but I couldn't not pass it on. If just one person becomes aware, I think an off-topic post is a small price to pay.

Topiramate (Topamax): introduction of new safety measures, including a Pregnancy Prevention Programme

Topiramate is now contraindicated in pregnancy and in women of childbearing potential unless the conditions of a Pregnancy Prevention Programme are fulfilled. This follows a review by the MHRA which concluded that the use of topiramate during pregnancy is associated with significant harm to the unborn child. Harms included a higher risk of congenital malformation, low birth weight and a potential increased risk of intellectual disability, autistic spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children of mothers taking topiramate during pregnancy.

I was given this drug for inter cranial hypertension. It caused horrendous side effects. Stopped taking it. After reading that levothyroxine can cause intercranial hypertension I changed my thyroid medication and my headaches went. Neurologist didn’t really believe it was the levothyroxine causing my problems.

I think its perinent Helvella as this drug is often commonly prescribed in primary care for migraine prevention, migraine being far more common in women. Its an anti epileptic and has some fairly serious side effects, as well as the risks you've highlighted.

It was something my neurologist wanted me to try but I declined after checking side effects and reviews. Glad I did.

I’ve been on this drug for 20 years and it’s been very good for me. No serious side effects at all in fact no side effects.

I’ve now just been asked to double my dose to help the affects of another condition caused by Sjogrens, small fibre neuropathy, as I’ve tolerated it so well and I’d much rather try that then be put on a antidepressant which was the alternative.

We are all different and every drug can cause issues.
