Dose adjustment how long

Hi everyone,

I’m adjusting my thyroxine dose so how long does it take to feel the benefit of a change? Or how long do I wait before adjusting dose again if needed?

Can you share your most recent thyroid blood tests with us (plus ranges) and the dosage of thyroid medication you are taking so we can offer better advice.

You need to retest thyroid levels 6-8 weeks after being on a consistent dose. I like to wait the full 8 weeks, as it often takes me this amount of time to ‘feel the benefit’. I also adjust very slowly (12.5mcg increase) as this means I don’t miss the ‘sweet spot’ where I feel most well. Others, however seem fine increasing by 25mcg Levo.

You may need several small increases over time to reach an optimal level of medication.

It is also very important that key thyroid vitamins are tested and supplemented if needed: ferritin, folate, B12, vit D

I'm only on my first dose increase (finally!) and it has taken four weeks to see the start of improvements that I can feel sure about. I have been very ill these last two months so I think it might take longer to see more for me.
