cyanocobalamin 50 mcg tabs

What was you mother's B12 result? That prescription for B12 is a shockingly low dose.

It is worth reading the following links on the subject of B12 :

There are four different types of B12 supplements available. Most of us on this forum take methylcobalamin, not cyanocobalamin.

My own B12 is at a good level but if I ever need to raise it I take methylcobalamin 1000mcg per day. When I've raised my level to where I want it I will continue to take the same supplement but only a couple of times a week.

For information on how high a level to aim for see these links :

Please note, that vitamin B12 is water-soluble and if levels go above the top of the range it isn't dangerous, it is just wasteful. The kidneys excrete any excess in urine.

Dear Human bean, thanks for your great response, not used at all to blood results but vit D in 4 -numbers-83.3 . 25nmol,vit d , requiring replacement

25-50nmol, vd insufficiency, consider replacement

. . 50-150 adequate vit d status.

Nb.Ma has not ever, had vit d of her ,gp.s re. vit B ,I was given NO choice of vit b tabs , or amounts , have I / she a choice ? it seems he has given a bare minimum up grade of her meds..

You won't get a choice from a doctor when it comes to B12, but you can buy methylcobalamin 1000mcg from Amazon and other websites that sell supplements without prescription.

The same is true (no prescription required) for vitamin D and folate. Note that folate is needed to help the body metabolise B12.

If your mother's vitamin D is 83.3 nmol/L then she isn't miles away from optimal, which is usually given as 100 - 150 nmol/L, and it shouldn't take to long to raise it. Vitamin D3 is also available on Amazon and on other sites selling supplements.

Regarding vitamins you had some very good suggestions here which would be far better than your GP is offering. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
