Has anyone been on 137 levothyroxine and become overmedicated and then started over from the beginning. How would that work starting over at maybe 25. Just wondering how the body would handle that. Any advise if you have had this experience. If you were going for a goal of getting off medication would it be best to decrease from high to low. Does anyone know the standard procedure for this?

We certainly wouldn’t advise a reduction from 137mcg to 25mcg Levo; adjustments need to be made slowly over time.

Tsh on 125 was 1.77 range 0.36 to 3.74. Free t4 was 1.01 range 0.76 to 1.46

Have you been given a different brand of Levothyroxine? Some members report adverse symptoms with certain brands.

With hypothyroidism, thyroid medication is needed for life. However, some members do change the type of thyroid medication (if optimal levels cannot be achieved by Levothyroxine).

I was on a generic synthroid for the 125 and generic levoxyl for the 137 before that. Both seem to be a bit much. New labs today but don't have those. Our generics here in US seem to be not really equivalent sometimes in my opinion but cost savings is essential. I'm on a break till gp gets back on next move. Keeps life interesting.

Why are you trying to reduce/stop it?

It's making my HBA1C appear elevated where fasting aren't, constant fight over labs, meds being changed at pharmacy and its plain making me ill. I know most everyone on here has the same battles but I am tired of the bs. Hope my endo appointment in June can help with some answers. I need to be able to walk without falling and be able to drive. It's just getting to be a danger zone for me.
