Blood tests confirming malabsorption and malnutrition

Out of curiosity, I managed to set up my NHS portal and patient access, and checked through the last couple of years of various blood tests. Now, when I was in hospital in 2022 (all linked to mistreated hypothyroidism), many blood tests showed malabsorption and malnutrition. These were repeated daily over 14 days as inpatient, and remained concerning even at point of discharge!

I am shocked that, under the circumstances of my admission to hospital, that no follow up was or has occurred.

Is this common, or not?

Does anyone know?

I can remember when I was a child that a few of my hospital admissions would be deemed worthy of a follow up appointment. One of my adult admissions was given a follow up too. But they get more and more rare the older I get. And frankly, the admissions that I got followed up for were not always the most serious ones. It seems to me, with hindsight, that they were essentially random.

The NHS and nutritional deficiencies do not go together - if they acknowledged the relevance of these deficiencies half their beds would be released for others - the majority of the medical profession today have no knowledge of this science unlike years gone by - although even then it took nearly 200 years to convince the navy they needed citrus fruit to deal with scurvy and only then because they were running out of sailors - most of this work is undertaken in the private sector or if lucky by an NHS nutritionist who will give you information you can get on the internet- most of the nutritionists within NHS are geared towards diabetes - don’t get me wrong it is outrageous you weren’t referred on to say GP but their knowledge is often lacking on this and the supplements they offer on NHS are often inferior- I too had serious malabsorption all connected to low thyroid- low magnesium- zinc - D etc. so if you let us know your results we might be able to help.

Thank you for replying. My endo, with my insistence, has requested vitamin and mineral blood tests. I requested B12 and Iron too. I have to have it done on Wednesday next, so maybe, if they are the correct ones, but who knows, maybe it might answer some questions.

It is incredibly difficult to know what came first, the chicken, or the egg.

It seems odd to me that all this started, for me, after I had the three covid vaccines. I have not had the virus itself. But, did the hypothyroidism cause the low vitamins and minerals, or did low vitamins and minerals cause hypothyroidism? Or, did the vaccines contribute in any way? There is some info confirming the correlation between the covid vaccines and the onset of thyroiditis within weeks.

Unfortunately our bodies are finely tuned, so, if one thing goes off kilter it can effect many parts of the body. Knock on effect.

Hi there - as a child I had problems with circulation issues ie chilblains for which I was prescribed calcium and anaemia - I was always tired - point I am trying to make is that my diet was excellent at home ands school meals were amazing - I believe that the thyroid in my case was not up to speed and was in family on Mother and Father’s side but luckily because I never felt 100 per cent I kept all at bay with supplements from age 19 - it was only when I got to 50 it hit me - I agree with you re vaccines I think any vaccine can disrupt the thyroid which is like a sponge - so could be that if you have no family history of thyroid issues there is inflammation- how about asking for a thyroid scan - this is where I found out my thyroid had atrophied - great you are getting tests but there are loads more that they won’t do - good luck let us know how you get on !

The covid vaccines caused a lot of problems the NHS is only now becoming aware of. It was all rolled out too soon without enough testing. After the very first one I got tinnitus and hearing loss, which is permanent now, and there are thousands of people who also did. The Doctors wouldn't admit it of course, but eventually they did at the Hospital as they had so many people coming in with ear problems. To start with they wanted to give me an MRI, but I refused as I am claustrophobic, but in the end they didn't push it as they had done so many without finding anything that they came to the conclusion it had to be the vaccine that had caused it. They are now only giving the vaccine to certain people that are vulnerable. A lot of people also got long covid, with no idea when or if they would get better. So yes, the vaccines did contribute to a lot of problems that we are only now finding out about. My Husband and I also got covid the Christmas before last, and afterwards he got shingles, and so did a lot of people, so the covid obviously affected the immune system and left people open to other diseases.

I have 4 immune deficiency diseases and I refused jab - spent 2 years on vulnerable listing indoors with hubby and February 2023 he went to GP and caught Covid and so did I - I went imto action with extra steroids for adrenal insufficiency and Zinc and C lozenges and DHEA and upped my thyroid hormones - was vomiting for 2 days (adrenals not happy) upped steroid by another 1 mg and was up and about working at computer on day 3 albeit with sniffs and coughs - looking after hubby who was really bad and hasn’t been right since - he had the jab !
