In the morning I take thyroxine on waking .i allow an hour before breakfast which is normally a yoghurt and a cup of tea .

I have been told to take lanzaprole on an empty stomach in the morning BUT you have to wait 4 hours in between levothyroxine and lanzaprole now this is useless to me so my question is I have my main meal of the day about 1/1.30 can I take my lanzaprole about 12.30 as I take other pills in the evening so not possible then ..thank you for advice as my chemist couldn’t answer my question

It doesn’t matter when you take Lanzaprazole in relation to thyroid meds.

Unlike antacids such as calcium, these drugs work in a way which reduces acidity on a consistent basis. Taken regularly, as they should be, your stomach will be an alkaline environment for as long as you take them

because I had a phone call from my doctors and the nurse was doing a review on my meds ..and she said you must leave 4 hours from thyroxine as they interact with one another hence asking again sorry 😔

have you considered taking it at night before bed? I used to take an Omeprazole which is also a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) at the same time as my Levothyroxine and breakfast, all together!

After palpitations and numerous ectopic heartbeats appeared in early 2021 during covid without any help from anywhere I tried to find my own solution. I discovered that I should have been leaving 1 hour between Levothyroxine and breakfast and Levothyroxine 4 hours apart from Omeprazole.

I would set my alarm and take the Levothyroxine at ridiculous times in the early hours to space apart from Omeprazole which was not too good sleep wise, then wised up and started taking it at bedtime instead.

PPI’s can reduce absorption of lots of minerals and vitamins but also some medications, Levothyroxine is not mentioned on the patient leaflet but it is well documented elsewhere.

I fluctuated between 125-150mcg Levothyroxine through the years when taking a PPI at the same time to 150-125-12.5 to eventually settling on 100mcg for the last few years.

Sadly the timing of my medications didn’t change the palpitations as they persisted for almost a year but I only have to take 1 Levothyroxine tablet now.

Have you spoken to your doctor about the timings as one of my GP’s actually wrote on the prescription for Omeprazole after my issues to take 4 apart from Levothyroxine.

Thank you for your input much appreciated .i take a statin and blood pressure tab at night so didn’t want to add another nightime one ..my doc just says take in the morning .. pharmacy confused lol so I am as from today going to take it around 10/11 am as I have my main meal between 1 /1.30 so away from morning and before nightime as stomach will be empty then .i take levo quite early anytime between 5/7 am wait an hour before having a youghurt .i can’t work my life around pills all the time as I am not at home all day ..the joys of getting older

Omeprazole last around 24 hours so doesn’t matter what time of the day in experience, not sure about the one you take. You are correct in what you say about having to fit your life around pills. I hope you find a solution.

Thanks yes I have decided to take it at lunchtime away from any other meds ..
