How do you feel? This is important for anyone wishing to comment. And, even if you posted before, brief recaps of your situation help.

Best wishes.

I feel like a caged animal

I feel trapped inside a body which is slow and unable to move

I’m unhappy really as I want to be fit and move with purpose instead of falling onto the settee all the time .

Bless you. I do understand that. I think as has been explained below, you may benefit from T3 (assuming you are diagnosed as hypothyroid and on Levothyroxine only).

Hello there :

We generally feel best when on T4 monotherapy when our T4 is up in the top quadrant of the range with the T3 tracking just behind at around 60/70 % through it's range.

So your T4 is where it needs to be and tracking at just over 80% through it's range but your T3 is tracking at just under 19% through it's range - and it is low T3 that causes all the symptoms of hypothyroidism including the exhaustion you detail.

No thyroid hormone replacement works well until the core strength vitamins and minerals of ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal levels - so do you have any readings for these ?

Conversion of T4 into T3 can also be down regulated by any physiological stress ( emotional or physical ) inflammation, antibodies, depression, dieting and ageing - do you have any other readings there that could be relevant ?

P.S. Just seen another post and the MMH explanation so presume this result is showing over range TPO antibodies and likely a diagnosis of Hashimoto's Auto Immune Thyroid Disease.

You might like to read around on the research and suggestions of Dr Izabella Wentz - who has Hashimoto's AI thyroid disease - thyroidpharmacist.

PPS. Looking back I see you were wanting to stop T4 and go the ' natural route ' some months ago - I'm presuming you didn't do this and have remained on T4 and now we have a diagnosis of Hashimoto's AI thyroid disease maybe this all makes more sense ?

The treatment for Hashimoto's is T4 thyroid hormone replacement and you will likely experience ' swings ' in symptoms as this AI attacks and destroys your thyroid - and ultimately you will need more support from thyroid hormone replacement as your thyroid becomes totally disabled.

You will likely feel better also having a small prescription of T3 - Liothyronine alongside your T4 medication so to restore T3/ T4 hormonal balance which will hopefully kick start the conversion of T4 into T3 - which is the active hormone that runs all your bodily functions from your physicality through to your mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual well being, your inner central heating system and your metabolism.

Are you eyes affected at all ? - Just ensure that any eye drops or gels you use to ease the dryness, grittiness etc are Preservative Free - even those prescribed:

Great answers

I followed the instructions to the letter

I continued with Levothyroxine dropping from 150 to 100 so I was surprised to see a normal result.Where do you get the T3 prescription? I avoided supplements until my blood test was over but they want to sieze the day

Thanks x

On the NHS you will need to be referred to an endocrinologist for assessment of your need for T3 - and in some areas of the country it seems a bit of a post code lottery with CCG/ICB financial constraint rather than patient medical need being implemented.

Obviously if you can afford to go privately the landscape very different.

Thyroid UK the charity who support this forum hold a list of sympathetic specialist thyroid and endocrinologists both NHS and Private - so email admin @ thyroiduk.org for same and many still offer video consults so distance need not be problem.

Great response

I’m depressed because I’m so exhausted

I will start supplementing and I did try to follow Isabella but I found it so complicated

My memory is now foggy and the weight gain depressing

I’m introducing gluten free

My eyes are perfect

It seems I won’t be able to access the T3 medicine here?

Well yes, I'm afraid when not optimally medicated these insidious ' knock on ' symptoms tend to creep up on us -

SlowDragon has already linked you back to her full previous reply - as to the next steps to consider :

Many forum members self source their preferred treatment option -

but first off we need to cover the 'usual bases ' and with Hashimoto's low vitamins and minerals, gut sensitivity and certain food intolerance such as gluten, dairy, wheat need to be resolved as some people have leaky gut :

High thyroid antibodies confirms cause of your hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease

I

As per my reply in previous post here …

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Was test done early morning ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Next step test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

What vitamin supplements are you taking
