Hello all,

My first post. I’ve been reading all the posts and am thrilled to have found this forum (Hashi patient).

I read this 2021 study recently.

Has there been a discussion here before/so far on this?

Long-term Levothyroxine use and association with cancers (Study in Taiwan):

jimh111 has probably posted more about any possible issues than anyone else. I hope he will be available to reply.

Welcome to the forum RomerinSpring,

So we can offer better advice, can you tell us more about your thyroid condition, eg when you were diagnosed, ongoing symptoms, current medication & dosage, plus blood test results (with ranges in brackets) for:

TSH

FT3

FT4

Plus any antibody and key vitamin tests (ferritin, folate, vitamins D and B12)

If your GP is unable to complete all the above (eg if TSH is within range, some surgeries may not be able to access FT4 and FT3 tests), you could look to do this privately, as many forum members do, for a better picture of your thyroid health:

Once again another useless study based on collecting pointless data. Did they check if everyone ate white toast in the morning or any other similarly stupid and odd stat?

This makes me so annoyed and is just another scaremongering waste of time!

Rant over!

they took 2 plus 2 and made 8

Well known that increased weight is likely to increase cancer risk

Yet thousands of thyroid patients left on inadequate dose of replacement thyroid hormones ……and one of the most common hypothyroid problems is ……weight gain

And all the other less mentioned physical issues.

There are so many flaws in this investigation it's a wonder it was passed for publication. The use of the phrases 'relationship' and 'association' ( between factors like levothyroxine and cancer) is not the same as causation, as any research methods student will tell you. And there is no excuse for not obtaining informed consent, from participants although the researchers try to justify it, particularly when using their data for a study. Too many flaws in their methodology and conclusions make this a pointless piece of research.

It's really quite amusing, as one in two of us will probably get cancer anyway. It just shows how low the research community has sunk if this nonsense is given credence. A better use of resources would be looking at how many dementia patients have low T3, low d3 or low b12 but hey

Not what you're looking for?
